Kryømek - 1:72 Nexus Rider Combat Walker (Fantasy Forge), winter cammo

These are actually new pictures from an old model, built in the Nineties... This is the second AT-ST-like combat walker from an obscure tabletop SF-strategy game called "Kryømek Confrontation" () that I have built millennia ago. While the other one (which had a different armament and differed in some details, pics of that one will follow) was built for a desert theme, I decided to follow a snow theme with this one.

The kit (massive resin and white metal legs and details) has no moveable parts, only some details (commander's hatch, main gun at the "chin") were added from the scratch box.

The basic paint scheme is white and light grey, plus a wavy grid of slate grey lines - hard to see under the snow and weathering, though.

Highlight about the set is the small 15x10cm diorama base and the snow effect, created with sifted white bathroom tile grout. The model has been fixed to the base, because I built the walker in a moving position, so that its center of gravity moved forward and it would not stand on its own, despite broad, bird-like feet.

However, despite the age the thing sti9ll looks good - time to "celebrate" this with some new/better pics.

How do you get sifted powders to stay where they are put?   What do you fix them with?

I'm trying to imagine the complexity of the hydraulic circuits to make that work properly, and failing.

Well, I try to keep everything in cabinets behind glass, this seems to help a lot.

The charm of the tile grout is that you can wet the surface, apply it with a sifter like "real" snowflakes (I use nylon stockings over a glass opening - you get very good control concerning both the grit level and the intensity of the material), and it simply sticks to the surface, very stable, even to touch. A final coat with matt varnish improves this.

Nice one Dizzy. I hadn't seen this till now but glad I did. Very cool looking walker and should've been the ones they used in the SW films.
