Talos armed Warning Star "317" first served on barrier patrol out of NAS Adak, but is most remembered for its role in Vietnam, where it was credited with two MiG kills (and two probables), including a MiG-19 shoot down at 64+ miles.

MORANE SAULNIER MS.405, BELGIAN AIR FORCE 1940

In 1938 the Belgian government was desperately seeking to modernise its air force.  storm clouds were gathering in Europe and Belgium needed to be as ready as it could be.  it had already reached out to Great Britain and soon  Hawker Hurricanes would be delivered to replace Belgium's Gloster Gladiators.

But that was not enough, so Belgium turned to France.  Dewotine 520s were sought, but the French needed those.  Instead, Morane-Saulnier MS.405s were offered.  Belgium snatched them with both hands.

To speed up delivery, the 405s were painted in French colours (rather like the Hurricanes being delivered in standard RAF fighter camouflage), in this case Vert Fonce uppers and Gris Clair undersides.  Belgian roundels were applied in the same places as French roundels (the Belgians applied their own squadron emblems).

M22 was used by 2 Sqn based at Schaffen/Diest aerodrome when the Germans invaded Belgium in 1940.

SUKHOI SU-7 (1946)

The Soviet Union wanted to ensure that its copies of capture German jet engines would in fact propel an aircraft in the sky.  The Sukhoi Design Bureau proposed a simple test bed, based upon an existing design.  Sukhoi recognised the need for a tricycle undercarriage, so the simple expedient of converting a lend-lease P-39 was followed.  Out went the piston engine, on went the Jumos.  One other modification was to the cockpit: the car door assembly was welded shut, and a simple canopy - based on the P-39's - with a hinged centre section was added.
the Su-7 flew only for a year, but clearly inspired the all-new Su-9 (bottom of this post).
