As it says on the "lid" ; here's the place for your general chat about the G.B.

Best of luck and enjoy it.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Aren't some of the Matchbox kits based on the prototypes rather than the operational aircraft . The A10 springs to mind

I know quite a few of the old Hawk kits were, F-92 (actually the XF-92), F-84F (actually the YF-84F), Gloster Javelin (second prototype)come to mind ---

But you don't need a kit of a prototype to make a model of one. You can SAY it's a prototype so long as it's painted like one.....  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I don't want to promise anything,, but if I have time and no other build interferes, I think I will build my Gloster CXP 1001 kit I got from Sharkit a while ago.

Was only looking through the box of 'unfinished' stuff last week, and came across the scratch bodge, in service one, I started eons ago.
I wasn't flush enough to get the Sharkit one, so used the Plastyk Mig-17 PF kit, plastic card, and then got distracted by shiny things!

Don't see many of those kits built, on my interweb searches.

A lot of Lindberg kits were based on prototypes.

Been wracking my brain for an idea for this GB and then suddenly I remembered a little blurb I read in a book on the Vulcan.  And I even already have the required kit in the stash!!   Counting down to the first now.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Took some time, but I have two ideas for submissions. One will remain secret (got to check ingredients and options!), but the other will be a converted Macross VF-1: a model of (one of) the non-transformable prototype(s). I found B/Wsketches in literature and even a full color CG rendition of this fictional vehicle, giving me enough information for a relatively "authentic" build from a 1:100 kit.

Correct (M61 instead of BRRRRRT on the nose, stabilizers, paint schemes). Also Mbox Alpha Jet is based on the mock-up (even German A version has the blunt E nose), F-14 is a cross between the prototypes and earliest production examples (notably it is the only Tomcat kit with the early style wing glove box).

Other prototypes of later series produced machines out of the box are Airfix/Hasegawa/Frog Saab Viggen (the readily apparent feature is the distinctive lack of the area-ruled "hump" that even the Matchbox kit had), Hasegawa's earliest F-15 (with straight wingtips and even prototype markings!) and whatever the MiG-23 is pretending to be, Revell's original F-16 (YF-16), JAS Gripen (mockup with wtfhuge wing fold panel lines never even found on any of the prototypes or even the actual mockup and MASSIVE rivets), JF90/EFA Eurofighter (again a mockup, shape differences aside it has wingtips extending through the ECM pods and missing two weapon pylons and cannon port), and MiG-29. There's probably many more...

What about the first Monogram example? That was based on the mockup as I recall?

I suppose VL could have done this prototype in a less operational scheme.

If it's the re-boxed Kangnam MiG-29, then it's based on pictures from the Fulcrum's first apprearance in the West at Le Bourget. The same goes for the Kangnam Su-25 (also re-boxed by Revell), which is a rather delicate interpretation of the Frogfoot. This one was also based on a Le Bourget exhibition piece (301 Blue).

There's nothing to stop you building one in a prototype scheme, that would fit into this theme very well.
