I've seen umpteen short vids of that test, but that one's by far the best. Great filming and a great test too.

But Edwalton's quite a bit further than the 8.75 miles from Old Dalby that they reckon, and goodness knows how they got a Class 46 up to 100mph!

Is that the test the naysayers claimed was rigged?  Or was it a later one?.
Didn't the flask trains used to rattle through London in the dead of night on occasion?  I have vague memories of that but information on them was kept under closer wraps than that on the royal train.

Second wing is primed which means (unless something odd happens while the paint dries overnight) that the whole airframe is ready for the colour coats.

Probably, but they only did the Old Dalby crash test once.

And yes, they did run them through London in the middle of the night, but that was probably because there were more paths available then anyway.

Conspiracy theorists will always refute that of course.

Yup saw them a couple of times from my old office window whilst putting in an "over-nighter".

I should mention that the problems we were having with the steel for the flasks was because we were pushing the known bounds of metallurgy to places it didn't really want to go. Got there in the end and then everyone else climbed on the bandwagon and used what we'd developed of course

I have been waiting on Warrington central station coming home from work in the mid nineties and a train carrying several nuclear flasks trundled into the station and stopped at the platform right where I was sat. I was bemused to say the least and got up and vacated the area sharpish.

Round about 1960 ish, the flasks from Chapel Cross  were transported to "Calder & Windscales works" past the  house   we lived in on the outskirts of Carlisle.   It's 60 years ago, but I can remember a white cube on a low loader pulled by a dark green Scammell.  I don't recall any form of escort or security with them, but one of my schoolmates' uncles was a driver.  I was told he'd sometimes stop at their house to get his flask refilled with  tea....................which is interesting, but has nothing at all to do with the H.P. Victomic!!

The idea of the flasks was to contain any radiation and remain intact in the event of an incident.  There should have been no problem with being as close to them as any of you say you have been.

Assuming we were told the truth of course...

No progress on the Victomic today.  Nothing odd happened overnight but I decided to give the primer another day to dry before I put masking tape on it.
