Looking at it now, I think I need to do a bit of dry brushing on the insides of the hatches to get some dimensionality but over all ... Not too shabby.

Flicky brush - I don't want to torture my airbrush into getting "spitty", in case it doesn't recover.

Thanks mate.  I've not had much luck with flicky brush.  It always seems to go anywhere but where I want it.

A quick run-down on my technique (made up as I went along):

I used a wide brush, approx. 15mm across, dipped in (AK) pigment fixer, which I then dipped into my (SMS "Dust") weathering pigment forming a mud-like mix. With the handle of the brush pointing out like a spoke from the wheel & the brush aligned with the "width" along the tyre tread, I flicked the mix up where I would expect mud to be flung, sometimes moving it a bit to improve the spray pattern (if I hadn't fitted the wheels too early, I could have done under the wheel arches properly, too).

Pretty simple &, as you can see, seems to give the right splatter effect (after a tiny bit of trial & error).

Big hint: DON'T try to do it all in one hit! Small amounts built up is better.

That looks great, especially the weathering.

Like you say, a touch more scuffing on some of the hatch interiors might be appropriate, especially the bottom halves of the side doors, which have got to get kicked to hell.

I like the dark colour showing through on the front corners too: just where 'driver familiarisation' is going to lead to some of the top coat of cammo getting scraped off...

This vehicle is still quite new (well, it wasn't too long since it was refurbished) so there isn't too much wear but it is quite busy in the dusty/muddy Ukraine, so is somewhat dirty (especially externally).

However, my thinking is, also, that this vehicle has already seen some combat against Russian armour in the Donblass, as Russia reneges on the Minsk Agreement & attempts to take control of all states bordering the Sea of Azov& the Black Sea, & the increasingly militarised Crimea.

The Russian invasion, initially successful, has been halted due to large volumes of older, but still capable NATO military hardware being provided to Ukraine in a MAP-type arrangement. Ukrainian generals used this equipment to, mostly, arm reserve units* which made up the second phase of the multi-layered defensive system which has bled the Russian army to a point where other subject states (including the Crimea, where even Russians are now opposing Russian rule) are openly rebelling again, as Russian forces are drawn from these regions into the Ukrainian meat-grinder.

The Russians will, eventually, be forced to accept peace terms which include their complete withdrawal from Ukrainian territories, as of 1998, & the de-militarisation of all Russian states along their Western & South Western borders.

(*: These reserve units are, mostly, Ukrainian but there are increasing numbers of foreign volunteers, especially from former Warsaw Pact countries, who see this increased Russian aggression as the prelude to an attempt to regain the territories of the former Soviet Empire.)
