I've got LOTS of MR3 Shackleton bits if you need them Chris.

Apart from the wings and engines of course...................
Thankyou  Kit, I have a look at what I have  bits wise, but  if you don't need any of them I will  gladly  purchase them from you.  I know that there isn't a canopy  or other windows or landing gear.
Cheers

If you're after Shatipusses, I have several (at least three) that I'm keen to dispose of, plus a box of bits.

Oh, for jet assisted Shacks, AiM do Viper engined Shackleton conversion for the Frog kit (only available through Hannants), but the Revell MR3 comes with a spare set of outer nacelles with the Viper exhausts.

I will take off your hands Lee, always good to have plenty of  bits incase of irreversible  razor saw fubarment.

Definitely 3 in the disposal pile, all reboxed Novo ones (Modelcraft, Eastern Express and Gomix) , plus the box of bits has two Novo fuselages (albeit with a bit removed from the back, the wreckage of a second fuselage, plus what's left from the Revell AEW2 after I'd stripped it of everything I wanted for my Avro Tudor.

I am sure that there's plenty of  usable bits in that lot let me know how much Lee.

Seen as I  will be putting  remotely operated defensive turrets on this thing, the type of gun to put in them has got me wondering. .50 cals would be nice, but they wouldn't be as hard hitting or have the range of say 20 mm cannons.  I  have neither  in the spares boxes  so  scrounging/ purchasing  etc will have to be done.  I am leaning towards  20 mm cannons, but aftermarket wise there is either  the Hispano's with the anti recoil  springs  as fitted to the hurricane, or the shrouded ones as fitted to the  Spitfire.  The shrouded ones I  think would look good  as they would  be a bit  more aerodynamic. The tail gun  position  i want to  put a pair of long barrelled guns  in, so as to have that bit more of a reach. The aircraft will be an in service  round about  the  late 40's  into the early 50's  where it will become  rapidly  obsolete due to the leap in jet technology, so possibly a pair of auxiliary jet engines.  It will sort of be a British  Peacemaker  if you will, but not as big.

Avro experimented with this concept Chris --

The gunner sat in the tail but not in a tail turret. The guns are 20mm cannon.

A while ago I picked up a packet of brass microtubes produced by a French company called Tarmac. I thought I got them from Hannants, but they don't have the name listed in the manufacturer list. I might have got them from Aviation Megastore though ---
The tubes are really small in diameter and they are used to make machine guns and cannon barrels. They are precision tubes and can slide easily into each other.

It's about time those guys at Master did some 20 mm cannon to replace those in the zillions of Shackletons that by now will have their plastic ones snapped off short.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That layout  looks  very much how I  want to  do the armament on this thing Robert, I  can't tell if they are single  cannons or twins  in the turrets , but mine will have  twin 20 mm cannons in them. The only  place  near to me that I could have physically look for suitable  brass tubes has just shut down, the shop I used to go to in Bolton  has also shut, so do you know what the diameter of the tube is  please Robert, then I can  hunt  some down  online.  I  think that Master would  sell plenty  of replacement  guns for Shackleton's  Kit, as from personal experience  guns are the first to get damaged on any  aircraft.

Each turret has two cannon Chris ---
The range of micro-tube diameters are .4mm to 1.3mm, there are .6, .8, .9 and 1 mm too. I think they are for 1/48 scale kits usually but the very small sizes work well for 1/72. An example, the barrels I put on my Wyvern were the .8mm ones, scales to 2" outside diameter which I think would be close for a 35mm cannon.

Thankyou Robert, I  dare say  .4mm should do for what I want then as  it would be  the nearest to 20 mm in 1/72nd scale.  I will look some up now.

Been  having another think about what this  aircraft would  need  and thought about a radar system  for it. Late 40 's early  50's aircraft radars  would be  quite  large  to be of use in a bomber  so  would a nose dome  or a wing mounted  thimble type radar  be right for it. Although a piston engined bomber and  not much of a  progression for ww2 designs, I  would like to put some  up to date at the time  avionics on it too.

Lincolns still carried an updated H2S radar under the aft fuselage right through the 50s, so almost any sort of radar would work for your Kittleton.

Thankyou Kit, what is the reason for having the  radar  in the rear of the aircraft  instead of at the front  to look ahead, or was it a downward looking  bombing system.
