Blackburn Beverly Car-Ferry

Just had an idea to turn the 1/72 Contrail vacform Blackburn Beverly into a civilian car-ferry similar to the Bristol type 170 and the ATL-98 Carvair.
The kit that I have is damaged, so the Blackburn Car-Ferry will have new wings and a new cargo interior.  I also intend in having the front and rear cargo doors opened,  but I shall see how many scaled cars the bay can hold.
Having a cargo bay fitted will strengthen the upper deck and wing roots. Fortunately for me there won't be a great deal of interior detailing on the upper deck.
A raid in the spares boxes should provide the wheels and landing gear.

They showed that capability for real with the 'Blackburn Universal Freighter' at Farnborough one year. It was a prototype Beverley actually with a civvie reggie, and it carried a single decker bus filled with nurses, of all people, which drove out of the Bev and around to the tower. Then the Bev reversed up the runway (!) and took off.

There was a lot of design work done on a car ferry version, there's a GA diagram with a period car load in From Spitfire to Eurofighter. There's even an Eagle cutaway which I have in a book.

It would have been able to carry six cars and five motorbikes, with forty two passengers in the tail boom.  The cars would be on two tiers, loaded onto the upper tier with a spring Jack and locked into place.

I put some images up on the Beverley thread a while back.  If I ever get around to doing my 1/144 Micro Mir kit it'll probably be as the car ferry.

I bet they still wouldn't have strapped the bikes down properly, even on an air ferry....

There's an idea: do one in Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company colours and fill it with 1/144th motorbikes. Don't bother to arrange them properly, just put them in a heap in the middle of the cargo floor: nobody will question it...

I'm going to need a higher ramp for my front doors as the nose wheel  well gets in the way  or revert to plan B
