Scaling down stuff

I  have just acquired a  1/48th scale air launched  Bluewater missile  from a very kind gentleman on Facebook.  Although not the scale I  work on  I  thought  perhaps I  could  scale it down  and have a go at replicating  the missile. Is there any  reliable  conversion  sites I  could  use as I  dare say getting exact measurements for the real one  would be  thin on the ground. If not, would anyone  be able to  produce a few in 1/72nd scale  using the  missile as a template  so to speak.  The overall shape  is not an awkward one to replicate, only the fins would  cause  problems  getting them the right  size.

Measurements in 1/72 are 2/3 of 1/48.

So, if your part in 1/48 is say 10mm, then the equivalent part in 1/72 is;

  10mm x 2/3 = 20/3 = 6²/₃mm
  or approx. 6.67mm (to 2 decimal places).

Cheers for the  information, much appreciated. The only information about the full size  missiles was that  they were about  25 feet long.  I  just need to work out what to make them from now

The end result is exactly the same as multiplying by 48/72, but I have divided by the common denominator (24) to get 2/3.

H has just reversed what I'd do, which is multiple by 48 first (to get the 1:1 scale measurement(s)), then divide by 72.

Haha, I  have a slight problem with that Robert  as I  don't have one  to measure, just the one, 1/48th one. Thankyou again  O.W I will use that method also.  Bow to find  a suitable material  make them from

Interestingly, the shape of the missile is very, very similar to the Red Angels I just made for my Wyvern project, they're just a lot bigger.

Cheers Robert,  when I get  some of these  made  it will  prompt me to  build one of my TSR2  kits  hopefully.  I am currently  rattling around  ideas for the  Avro  Kittleton , as that will need a fair amount of work.  Maybe, when built, the Kittleton could  be a test bed  for carrying and launching a  Bluewater missile.

Just remember though, the pylon for it is not your average pylon. It has a radiator in it, the whole of the rear of the pylon is the hot air outlet and it's as wide as what the thickest part of the pylon is.

That is something I don't  have  is the relevant pylon  Robert, I just  have a missile.

I'd really like him to rerelease it, that and his Vulcan Skybolt conversion as I begrudge paying through the nose for the AiM one from Hannants.

The Blue Water set I have is the SAM Publications set from years ago when they were introduced just after Airfix had released their TSR2. You never know, someone might have one to sell ---
