Just received an eBay win of

1 x 1/72 Matchbox BAe Hawk 200 which will be merged with an Italeri T-45 Goshawk to make a single seat naval version just like on Spinner's thread

Gondor

Nice!

Apart from the smallish vortex generators ahead of the stabilator, what visible difference is there between the two aircraft? In 1/72, many things are hidden by scale, such as marginally bigger in/outlets etc, so I'm honestly curious as I'm contemplating something similar, but maybe without the added cost of an Italeri kit..

The BAe Hawk has a verntral airbrake and no arestor hook as well as only one nose wheel and no catapult attachment to the nose wheel leg either so I am going to do a swapping of the cockpit area and nose from the Hawk 200 while keeping the nose undercarriage bay and the rest of the T-45 which I bought a few weeks ago. I also have several decals of squadron markings in the stash.

Thanks, Alastair. I wasn't aware of the airbrake. That's a pretty significant change.

Yup, a ventral airbrake would get in the way of landing which is why it was changed to one on each side of the rear fuselage. You could always fit the ventral air brake shut and fake the changes for those, not sure how you would get around the nose gear as it's undercarriage bay had to be deepened slightly as well.

In that scale, would you notice? Or be turning the thing upside down very often?
Easier to just leave it alone and call it close enough, IMHO - but I tend to be a lazy modeller and I can't be bothered spending extra time 'tweaking' some of the smaller, non-essential details, so YMMV.

Pellson

Umm..  there's an dead easy solution to the landing gear - having the model in flying condition,  gears up and locked.  As I always do..  ;)

I'll be watching your build nevertheless, and I'm sure I'll learn something.

I like cutting things upthen sticking them back together a bit differently though and don't expect the build anytime soon, this year nothing has happened other than buying stuff.

The T-45's landing gear is also different - it's not only beefed up in comparison to the Hawk, it also has a slightly wider stance.

Nice additions to the "Box Art" collection, Fred!

They are aren't they.
I did wonder why the Shiden Kai had it's flaps down until I read up on it.

Well, as if I wasn't accustomed to that from own experience..  ;D

The Wooksta!

The Bestfong decals arrived this morning.  Taiwan to the UK in under a week?  Better than some traders can manage from the UK to a UK address...

There's some other Mosquito decals on order:
Moose Republic - Swedish with 11 options
LF - Dominican Republic.
One aircraft on the sheet, so decidedly pricey, but cheaper than buying the Berna sheet from the US at £15, with a load of French options that are frankly useless to me and then getting stitched up another tenner for postage, and then whatever HRMC and their Royal Mail gestapo extort out of me. There is a Turkish option on the sheet, but I have Turkish markings anyway and a "55" is easy enough to find in the spares decals.

Very true, I'm still waiting for some Evergreen tube that I ordered on March 4th, and the supplier is in Lancs.

Their excuse is 'Haven't you heard of Covid?'  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

No worries, model supply shops are a bit thin on the ground in Lancashire  these days, so just wondering what  shop it could be  coming from.
