As for keeping track of The Stash for years I used Lotus 123 as that's what British Steel used until they switched to Microsoft products. I carried on using it until I retired whilst the rest of the world was on Excel, none  of my bosses could figure out how I got away with it but I just winked and carried on  Eventually I had to switch to Excel after I retired and I really don't like it, especially when compared to Lotus,  but it's really all that's out there. Every time I think I've got to grips with it they change the flippin thing  Anyhow after about 10 years I think I've finally got a searchable system that will see me out, but we'll see  It is useful though especially for paints etc, as long as you remember to update it. As for transfers ? I'm afraid I use the good old boxes and rummage system

I started on spreadsheets with Excel, but then switched to Open Office, which is like 10 year-old MS Office, but free. Suits me because I don't have to re-learn the system every time they change it, and it's free. Did I mention that it's free?

I've been using Excel too, it helps when you find out how to use it properly (many thanks to Carl [The Big Gimper]}--- 

This is my new decal tracking system, I used to have them in a binder but the constant rummaging through it destroyed the clear sheets the decals were in.

My other half is the Excel expert as her admin work demanded she be so, well at least far better than I am.

That looks like a good idea for decal storage, I think I will have to move towards that kind of system

I got the idea from my LMS, the decals were in boxes like this and made it much easier to rummage through when browsing. So far I have 228 sheets catalogued in Excel with a description of what the sheet is for. One column on the SS shows if they're used or unused, mostly it's the generic sheets that have had bits removed, but they are some sheets like what Freightdog or XtraDecal usually do with multiple aircraft schemes, which have a scheme missing. I can keep tabs that way on what I have used. But I'm still finding new unused sheets every time I look through the kit stash for something, that's because I used to buy an aftermarket sheet and then pop it into the kit box I had intended to use it with, but then forget I had them --- 

So far I've catalogued 890 un-built 1/72 aircraft kits,54 un-built 'other' scale kits, 129 built 1/72 kits, 35 in progress 1/72 kits, 80 1/72 accessory and vehicles. But I've still got a pile of un-catalogued kits and accessories to go through, which will include all the displaced original bits & bobs plus original decal sheets not used.

So far I've catalogued 890 un-built 1/72 aircraft kits,54 un-built 'other' scale kits, 129 built 1/72 kits, 35 in progress 1/72 kits, 80 1/72 accessory and vehicles. But I've still got a pile of un-catalogued kits and accessories to go through, which will include all the displaced original bits & bobs plus original decal sheets not used.

That's only a rough 15% more than I have unbuilt or started but in it's box, absolutely no idea about the accessories as some are in kits along with decals. Paints are usually in either egg boxes or Ferrero Collection boxes, not catalogued yet.

Paints, haven't thought about those yet  (note to self: ok on the list to do) Yeah! Accessories will be a biggie, I've got boxes of it all over the place. I've must have a couple of hundred Aeroclub items alone --- I decide to lump the few 1/72 vehicles I have into that list though, as to me they are an accessory to the aircraft and only there for a size comparison ---  I've got a huge box full of vacuforms which I haven't listed yet, there's a box of Avro Canada CF-105's which came with the moulds I bought which need to be counted too, there were about 40 kit sets but I've sold a good portion of them off, then there's all the recent buys, the list will probably grow by another 100 or so.

The un-built list fluctuates though, as I go through the stash I find boxes with parts not it them, then I find the 'started' kit in the 'in-progress' bin so then I move that SS kit entry into the appropriate list.
