Both the USN and RN were interested in defensive fighters for their smaller ships in the 1950s.  The USN commissioned two prototypes, the XFV-1 and the XFY-1, but went no further than that with them, as they thought any fighter would need to be supersonic.

The Royal Navy on the other hand, knew that the Soviets used the turbo-prop Bear for 90% of its maritime patrol work, so a turboprop fighter would be fine.

Shorts bought the rights to the Convair Pogo, and redesigned it for the navy.  The engine was replaced with an uprated Double Mamba, and the cockpit redesigned.  Two 30mm Aden cannons were mounted, one in each wingtip pod.

The "Angelfish" as it was affectionately known to its crews, was operated of specially modified Frigates, by only the most experienced pilots.

Now I want to have one! It's brilliant! Great execution with kit that's not that wonderful...

That's nice:lol:  reminds me of an 1:72 KP Pogo kit in the Stash that I plan to build in classic USN blue (Korea War era) some day.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Nicely done, and that's a BIG model too. I had one way back when, and always loved the way the props rotated opposite each other.

I had similar ideas in 1994, but in 1/72 and with larger wings too.  ;D

Hawker-Convair Osprey F1.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Nice build.

Yes the mechanism is far simpler than the one in Trumpeter's Wyvern

One thing I'd change if I didit again is the armament.  I'd replace the wingtip gun pods with rocket pods

That really does look the business
