I  would of thought some kind of hydraulic damper  would  be needed as part of a floating  mount also.

The trials were centered around the muzzle brake that was designed for it, called a Galliot Muzzle Brake.

Galliot and Bory were French engineers who conceived of that particular type of muzzle-brake.

Lorraine 37L fitted with a British 17-pdr gun and a Galliot Muzzle Brake, circa 1943.

Frankly the 32-pdr on the Mosquito was a silly notion and smacks of keeping up with the
Joneses:
"Ho boffins, Jerry is putting the 88 on aircraft, what say we go them one better and
fit a 32-pdr? Thanks chaps, I knew you'd come through."

;D

The Wooksta!

The Molins gun stressed the airframe, plus all the armour added for low level attack. A gun any larger is simply ridiculous and with rockets being easier to use and add to an existing airframe, a dead end. That's why they built so few Tsetse Flies, as of the 18 built, only 15 saw action.

RP's were the reason the project didn't go any further than some tests ----- the reason I posted about it, was nothing to do with using the Mosquito, the thread is about ship busting Lancasters -------

That brakes about a third the length of the barrel ? I can see it being fitted on something like the A39 Tortoise or similar though.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

It would still be nonsensical.  ;D

True, but it would make more sense if you wanted to go that route   ---------- Mind you, I think I'd go with something with a bit more of a stand-off range

The Lanc has a huge bomb bay - you could put a launcher and a whole lot of RPs in there.

But RP's keep you further away from those pesky Flak gunners .

and give you more than one shot ... think "shotgun" instead of "bolt-action rifle"

...or a Tallboy............  ;)

Short period of mental boggling as I imagined a Lancaster unleashing a lethal cascade of wardrobes on an unsuspecting enemy.

Tallboys are acceptable but IIRC the Geneva Convention specifically bans the use of credenzas in warfare
