In 1958, initial test results on the SR.53 were good enough to generate interest from abroad in the concept of a mixed-power interceptor. In particular the Germans, with their Eastern border that required very short reaction times to Soviet bloc aircraft overflying the border, were eager to run trials. The US also expressed interest, with the Korean war fresh in memory as another region that offered little warning time.

So under MDAP, a tripartite evaluation squadron was formed, which would do the trials and develop tactics. Saunders-Roe built 6 aircraft while expanding development of the SR.177 in anticipation of service orders. The trials were flown in the UK and the US.

This is the AZ kit, with custom decals (PR19_Kit provided a scan of the tripartite roundels from a P.1127 decal sheet).

Can't see any pictures Hobbes :-\

that's odd. They're not on a website that requires registration or uses any kind of scripting. Can you open http://www.acme-engineering.nl/ at all?

Steel Penguin

in that scheme it looks amazingly hi-tech.

I can get onto your site OK Harro, but I can't see pics of your SR53 either.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

PR19_Kit provided a scan of the tripartite roundels from a P.1127 decal sheet. I did the fin flashes based on his scan (I wanted to have them at an angle), and I found a Saunders-Roe logo somewhere.

The fuselage and wings have nice detail, with thin panel lines. The cockpit is okay, the landing gear a bit coarse. The parts mostly fit well, I hardly used any filler. Only the nose gear needed some persuasion to fit. The landing gear doors are rather thick. The plastic is on the soft side.

The decals needed a lot of time to let go of their backing, far longer than most decals. I damaged the large serials trying to move them. They're nicely printed, and you can see you get a lot of small details to liven up the white exterior.
