Very interesting and informative.

I love the SLARS machine with its all-hydraulic tiling and swivelling.  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

^ Is fine. Just as long as you don't want to have the water cannon on a Chinook or Stallion stick out of the "hell hole" in the helo's fuselage....

Chinook or Sea Stallion? Meh, a large water cannon (which BTW are called monitors in the firefighting industry)
out of the belly of an Mi-10K would be much more "impressive".
;)

One idea I've had on the back burner for decades- a PT boat surplused out into a fire/rescue boat on a large lake.

Hmmm? Plywood PT boat plus fire? Hmmm?

Rescue boat, not a problem!

Thanks Jon. I knew they didn't call them water cannon but couldn't remember what they used instead.

Unfortunately the reporting code Horse is already spoken for.... Would look good with an underslung tank

For inspiration, a Mi-6 with a hose in the chin position:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

That's a water-cannon/monitor mounted in the former gun position.

The red pipes barely visible in the photo are the tank filling system
that drops down into the water.

Rescue boat, not a problem!

They weren't made of "plywood", and if equipped with a typical fireboat monitor
system it wouldn't much matter anyway as you'd be doing stand-off firefighting.

Speaking of fire-boats the Seattle Fire Department's fireboat Duwamish, launched in 1909,
was originally built with a ram-bow so if necessary she could ram and sink wooden-hulled
vessels. Duwamish was in service until 1985 and is preserved as a museum ship. I've
been aboard.

No?

Of plywood and mahogany construction, a PT is light yet strong, lightly armored yet strongly armed. Its draft is seldom over 6 feet thus enabling it to maneuver in shallow water.

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

The only "plywood" is in the superstructure, frame gussets etc. The hulls were a double layer of
diagonally laid mahogany planks, the two layers were layed in opposite directions. The planks
were solid wood, not plywood. The decks of the 80' Elcos were also planked, except for the last
two production blocks which went to plywood.

References to the US PT and UK MTB/MGB as "plywood boats" has always been incorrect.

I need to watch this again, and the sequel!

Nearly forgot about Smokey and The Bandit, want to see that again now  ;D

Cannonball Run.  1981.  Not bad.
Cannonball Run 2.  1984.  A bit meh.

However, if you can find it, watch David Carradine in Cannonball which was filmed in 1976.  It's superior to the two above but rarely shown and impossible to find.

The Gumball Rally (1976) is also worth a look.
