Starting this for a Scaloramaa GB over on BTS. The story so far:
We all know that Lockheed's Skunk Works successfully built the A-12/SR-71 for use by the CIA and USAF. What is little known is that the Douglas Aircraft Company also built and tested a rival aircraft which to this day remains shrouded in secrecy....
Starting point the old Lindberg 1/48 X-3 Stiletto. It may have longer wings.... ;)

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I think U-2 rival is more appropriate, but I like it!

I hadn't thought of that - perhaps it might fall somewhere between the U-2 and Sr-71

Poor thing is going to be one confused plane - midway between a jet glider and the world's fastest aircraft!  ;D
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Are you going to leave the long pointy nose, or shorten it into more of a typical period look?

The initial mockup

Add twin booms and it's a M-55: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myasishchev_M-55

I was going to mention the M-55 (it's the high tail that does it I think) but I wan't bold enough to make the logic leap and say it!  ;D

Long pointy nose - got to put the weight somewhere! ;)

Trip down memory lane. Fifty plus years when I built one. Good luck with the conversion.
