Most police in the US these days use a combination of red and blue while fire departments use red and maybe white. I have seen a few vehicles use green also. Snow plows and tow trucks still use yellow. It can be confusing sometimes.

Addendum- Blue lights are used predominantly by police in Southern States, Chicago, and Boston (and probably some other municipalities as well, considering there are 89 thousand localities in the US), as well as volunteer EMS/Fire members in some states .  Green lights are used, generally, to indicate an Incident Command vehicle as well as a volunteer EMT in the State of New York.

If you're doing an American emergency vehicle, here's a handy reference on what's legal by state. (This section to be cross-posted in General Discussion

I know it's a big country, but I'd have thought some US-wide standard for the lights would have made a lot of sense.

After all people in the US change their jobs and move states very readily, and they could all get confused as it is.  :-\
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yup.  Its also been my experience that no matter *how* many lights your ambulance has*, people will *still* ignore you.  To whit, two of the Teaneck NJ Volunteer First Aid Squad's rigs:

Volunteer and professional EMTs call them "The God Squad", because when there's low hanging clouds it looks like God Himself is descending from the Heavens when they're on a run.  They also have a generator *just* for their lights.  And they have a hospital within township limits (and two more within 10 minutes).

The grey background of my screen is so light I was not sure what was written, but OK white between:

Back to the Lightning's, I found this:

I thought I had read about this a long time ago. Although, different colored light bars would play havoc with the navigation lights.

No problem, Old Wombat.

Thanks Kerick for the link, while I would not feel comfortable to be carried in a droppable tank... (unless sleeping/in a coma).
And you are right for the lights in the true World, that is why (at last) I discarded the car-light to follow Dizzyfugu on the P-38SA-1/2/3:

MiB showed the true LAPD Cessna 337/O-2, with a white front spinner, so I must correct this colour on my related O-38 Lightning Observer: :-\ ;D

Thanks Dizzyfugu!
Well, I went once more to your topic about the LAPD Spectrum One and I noticed that, on the Cessna 337 picture, even the pusher spinner is white. I correct this again:
