On a small apron a Focke Wulf FW-337 from 10./JG2 Richthofen stands ready to take off to intercept allied B-36 bombers. The FW-337 entered service with Jagdgeschwader 2 in January 1947 as a heavy interceptor. Because of its VTOL capabilities it did not require big airfields and the aircraft of JG2 were dispersed over a wide area. They used small, hardened aprons with a small support staff.
