Time to bite the bullet....

I've had one of these kits for some years, and now I've got another one too, plus the PE stuff that goes with it. And today I came across a kit that has JUST then thing to go with the first one I mentioned.  ;)

It's a Beverley, obviously. The Micro-Mir 1/44 scale kit (because I can't find a decent 1/72 scale one...)

This is the Shelf Oddity PE add-on for it, and there are THREE sheets of stuff inside that packet!

This is a resin RR RB211 engine from one of the Tri-Star kits that I have (Five at the last count...)

And here['s the components of the Bev kit itself, looking a lot better than previous Micro-Mir kit's I've attempted to build.

Why the RB-211? Not because I'm planning to re-engine the Bev, but because I'm going to build it as the one that Court Line bought to carry their RB211s about when they flew Tri-Stars. With luck it'll end up looking like this.....  ;)

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I like the look of this, although I'd have gone for the green scheme

I've got decals for all the different colour Court schemes, but it seemed their RW plans were for it to be in the pink.

And it's BOUND to drive the JMNs into apoplexy!  ;) ;D

I have some plans if you want to build a 1/72nd scale one kit ;D

Hehehehe, I'll get this one under my belt first please Chris.  ;D

I've got the wings together nicely, and they FIT too! There's a very small amount of flash on this kit, much less than other MM kits I've done before. (or not done...)

But before I even start on the fuselage I've got to do some of the vast amount of PE stuff. There are THREE frets in the Shelf Oddity pack, and no less than FOURTEEN sheets of instructions, which you have to download as there's no way they'd get that lot in the packet!

I can't help feeling that some of the more 'interior' PE items won't get fitted on this civvie Bev.......

With fixed landing gear, no less! Can you imagine the drag and noise?

It'd have been a flying wing by default as they'd have torn them free of the fuselage!

I'll be watching this with interest Kit.   I'll probably do mine as the car ferry that Silver City were interested in.  I might add Tynes from a Vanguard kit to make it a double whammy project build.  I'm worried that it'll cost as much in putty as the kit was,

It would have been difficult to be noisier than the standard version. I swear that the reason I need TWO hearing aids these days has a lot to with flying quite a number of hours in Bevs at an earlier age.  :banghead:

Out of curiosity, who makes a Beverly in 1/72? And, where can I get one?

There's the old Contrail vacform, which is long OOP, hard to find and expensive when you do.

Magna did a resin one in 72nd, which was supposedly quite decent, but the wings had a tendency to sag with age due to the sheer weight of the resin.  Collectakit *might* have one or two, given that they seemed to have a lot of Magna gear last time I saw them.  Again, OOP and decidedly expensive even when new. Likely 3 figure sum, but given all the resin, justifiable.

The mould is now with Dave Little of Combat Kits and Colin at Freightdog may know more about possible rerelease.  Drop him a PM or email.

Kingkit have a fair bit of the Magna range, but no Beverly.  They do have a pre-owned Argosy at £81 (plus post and VAT), but that's not what you want.

That'll be the old Contrail mould.

Sanger got some of the ex-Contrail moulds, others went to Neil Gaunt at Aircraft in Miniature (the Warwick and York are two for sure, many of the others he received were ex-Formaplane) and many of others have simply vanished.

Thanks, guys.

I'd rather not do a vac-form, especially of that size!  I've done exactly one vac-form (and have a few more on the shelves, including one of the TSR) and while it came out OK, it's not an experience I'm eager to repeat.

I've sworn never to touch resin kits - I have enough negative health factors in my life without adding "resin dust inhalation."  :)

I guess that leaves ritual sacrifice to the Deities of Styrene, whomever they may be.  :)

Polyurethane dust isn't particularly more hazardous than any other kind of dust.  Avoid it if you have respiratory issues of course.

I have used it at work and there's no particular caveats that apply to it. I think the caution from the modelling community harks back to PVC dust, which can be carcinogenic.
