Oh nice one - I had half a memory that somebody else had done something like that. That uses the full Luchs turret doesn't it? If so, then mine would still be significantly different, since it would use the oriignal turret with a 20mm substituted for the 50mm.

Anyway, modelling...

I had a keen idea for this 1WGB, based on a model I was sure I had, but having worked the idea up, I now find that i haven't got the model after all: think i must have decided I didn't need it and sold it at some point... :banghead:

In real life, the reconstituted post-war German army put various bits of WWII equipment back into production, notably the MG-42 machine-gun (rechambered for NATO 7.62mm and rechristened the MG3) and the P-38 pistol. My idea was that they'd taken this a bit further. They were very keen on 8x8 armoured cars in WWII, and they got keen on them again in the 1970s with the Luchs, so what if they filled the gap in between with a re-introduced version of the Sdkfz.234 Puma? The 50mm gun wasn't a NATO standard so they replace it with a 20mm as seen on real German AFVs of the period, add period smoke dischargers and post-war lights and off you go.

A 1950s armoured car wasn't that different to a 1940s one anyway. If you take a look at a Saladin and see how many diagnostically post-war features you can find, it's a short list. Most of the distinctive stuff like electro-optics came in later.

I've butchered both a Marder and a Luchs for other projects, which means I have Rh.202 barrels and Wegmann smoke pots to spare. The only trouble is, my 1/72nd Puma is gone. I've got a 1/76th one, but I suspect the difference matters...

This proposal of yours has given me an idea.  Assume that the Alvis Saladin was updated and in use until at least the First Gulf War.   I have a couple of Saladins in the stash..................

The Saladin was ripe for an upgrade. If the Scorpion's tiny turret could be upgunned with a 90mm Cockerill gun, I see no reason why the Saladin's couldn't also.

AAAAGH!!  Reality has crept up behind me an dealt me an unexpected blow.  It turns out that the Saladin WAS used, albeit by Kuwaiti forces,  against Iraqi units during the invasion of Kuwait City in the Summer of 1990.

I'd better make sure that my whiffed variant is equipment used by the reconnaissance troops of the Kings Royal Hussars.

Yes, it's a Luchs turret, but stripped down to its basics, and I gave the Puma new wheels.

The Kuwaiti Saladin's actions have become the thing of legend.  They gave the Iraqi's an unexpected bloody nose, but if the Saladin's had been upgraded they may have held them a while longer?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The Twitter modelling crowd are having a Helicopter GB at the moment that runs to the end of August. That has me thinking of doing a helicopter for the 1WGB and entering it in both. The only trouble is, I don't know what to do: I have quite a few helicopter projects on the list, but they are all either too complex for the 1WGB or have too fancy a paint scheme, paint drying cycles being the limiting factor in the 1WGB.

Ironically, some of them would have been good for the Blue Lights GB if I'd thought of them earlier. For instance, I've thought of nicking the German police markings and equipment from a Revell EC-135 and putting them on an Army Lynx...

I have some Bundesgrenzchutz markings from an Italeri Super Puma.  Nice simple scheme if you're interested?

The Twitter modelling crowd..

I wasn't even aware there was such a crowd. I should have anticipated something of the likes, of course, but I blame age and stupidity..
What hashtag do I look for?
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

There isn't one hashtag for the group, but searching on #scalemodelling will find you lots to look at. Also, if you follow the account @ModellersUnited you'll quickly end up seeing most of the regulars in the replies.

The specific hastag for the helicopter GB is #HeliGB
The starting tweet of the main thread about it is here: https://twitter.com/ModellersUnited/status/1388422624276094980?s=20

Thank you for the offer. However, I suspect that the "BUNDESGRENZCHUTZ" lettering would be too big to fit on the Lynx's rather slim tailboom.

You could try with "Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij"... ;D
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Your welcome, as it turns out it's kinda moot.  I was going to offer them up to a Lynx kit but I can't find the decals anywhere.  I have an annoying habit of checking them with kits I'm thinking of wiffing, then leaving them in the box and forgetting which one.  :banghead:

I might build an egg plane for the 10 day GB this year.  An RAAF Jug maybe.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Mossie

I've got a kit on order, it should arrive about a week before the start time, if not I'll be getting a bit twitchy...

NARSES2

Kits chosen and I've even taken it out of the stash and put it where I'll see it every day. Being resin it needs a good wash and rinse before construction starts and that counts as allowable pre GB preparation  Howevver if I leave it on the shelves I'll forget and lose a few hours,
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
