I'm guessing energy weapons are okay as 'guns', lasers, phasers, antimatter potato launchers etc?  Basically, anything pointed rather than guided, launched or dropped.

Addressed in post #31.  Energy weapons  are allowed.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Ta!  Read cannon balls and Greek Fire, skipped the various calibres and must have missed ion cannons with it.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

If one uses a wreck, bought already half-built, glue-bombed, wrecked etc, it's considered as raw material, that will be cut, rearranged, modified... and so allowed, or it's considered as a started model and so not eligible?
I have the wreck of a Matchbox corvette (the Flower, not the Chevrolet), and all those posts about monitors have started some ideas.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Surely, that would be the same as me kitbashing other people's artwork to make my own, right?

A quick question to the moderators: Did I understand the former discussion (page 2 or so) correctly that "popular gunships" (A-10, Su-25, AH-64, Mi-24, etc.) and fictional variations thereof are eligible as topics for this GB, too?

Wardukw

Im very intrested in this GB and i do have a chopper which might fit but ..always a but ..its a upgunned Bell 47 which is already built..its not 100% built tho and its not detailed enough to keep me happy ..like all engine details..fuel lines..all cables ..NOS bottles and so on.
Its now packing twin 50cals and will have a 30cal mounted near the co pilots seat.
Ive replaced the tail rotor boom with a stratch built one..the kit one was terrible.
So if the moderators would look kindly at it i would love to join ..or i could knock up a massively upgunned M113..think 155mm  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Just a quick question or two:

1) If a brand new warship is built as an all (or mostly)-gun variant of another class, does that qualify as a gunship?

2) Does a Shipbucket profile qualify if it's a modification of somebody else's work (with full credit, of course)?

Weaver, if you're asking if mine is a modification of someone's work, it's not. I used several parts from several of Ian's works, which I shared credit with him, by putting his name first.

No I'm not asking about your profile. I have an idea of my own, but I'm not up to drawing a Shipbucket profile from scratch, so it would be a modification of somebody else's profile. Essentially, it would be their hull (perhaps very slightly stretched) with changes to the masts, weapons and sensors.

cant see why number one is an issue "its all about the guns"

number two is more about site policy
Remember, if the reality police ask you haven't seen us in ages!
When does "old enough to know better" kick in?

Number two is a clear site policy issue on Shipbucket, with an established system for giving credit on the drawing (although I wouldn't be posting it there).
The real question is whether it qualifies as 'original enough' to be entered into the Gunships GB on here, and that ball is squarely in our moderators' court.

As a retired Moderator of Shipbucket, I can answer #2. As long as the credits contain the original artist(s) you're in the clear, because that is required, in and outside of the site.

I look at doing anything involving SB profiles the same as kitbashing a model kit.

I would say any Shipbucket profile modification would have to be pretty extensive to count as an original work. But if it is and complies with site rules as far as giving due credit then yes, it would count.  I would lean towards posting the original profile as part of the actual voting thread entry so the voters can judge for themselves if the modifications are sufficient to count as a 'new' profile.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Changes would be a 20-ish foot hull stretch, extensive changes to the masts, small changes to the superstructure, and changes to roughly 50% of the weapons and sensors.

I could post a "quick'n'dirty" image showing the changes in red if you like?

Here we go. Original profile at the top, My Q'n'D at the bottom. Masts mostly taken from M.Morris's Type 21 profile.
