I have the book called 'Armed with Stings'. It's about RN gunboats in the Med' during WWII. The gunboats in question were the 'Insect Class'

The US Navy designed and built a single Inshore Fire Support Ship the USS Carronade.
Lindbergh did a kit that was also released under the label of "Bobtail Cruiser", for obvious reasons.
The kit is 1/170 scale and isn't hard to find having been re-released several times.

I like the look of that, and with a SOCKING great twin (or triple....) gun turret replacing the rocket launchers and the puny turret that it had originally, you've got the makings of a serious monitor.

Plus some hefty hull bulges to give it stability and protection against torpedoes etc.

I can only find one such kit on eBay and it's in Portugal..............

Cutting the rear off of a different ship would be an option to build a similar looking vessel.

Regarding the Vickers QF 1-pdr (37mm) and 2-pdr (40mm) "Pom-Poms" I mentioned in another thread
(Dakota).

A 1/32nd scale Vickers .303 is an almost perfect scaleorama for a 1/72nd version of the QF 2-pdr.

The 1/35th ICM Vickers would do the same for the slightly smaller QF 1-pdr, especially as the kit
comes with two complete guns including one with the smooth water-jacket.

This photo in TallEng's Dakota (got it right this time  ) got me thinking about an early dirigible (hot air?)
with a suspended boat shaped car armed with Congreve rockets, grenade launchers of some sort and Pauly*
action punt guns.

*Jean Samuel Pauly invented the metal based primed cartridge, it saw limited sporting use and Napoleon
evidently wasn't interested. It consisted of a reusable metal base attached to a stiff paper cartridge body,
your basic shotgun 'shell'.

There's a punt with a punt gun in the museum in Carlisle.    I Knew the chap who donated it; he said it took a "huge charge of black powder"  and could take out whole flocks of ducks on the water.

It'd blow the boat back a good few feet. If you were daft enough to hold it you'd be on the ground with a broken shoulder. Ammo was whatever gravel, scrap metal and ball bearings you could find.
