The wright up is now finished so the only thing holding back the build is the Air-Graphic Models detail/conversion set so that I can update the wings and tail area.

Right, the Air-Graphics T-45C conversion set has arrived so I can use that as guide for makeing a more accurate wing etc for this build!

I am curious, too! Was a parallel build with my Indian Hawk/T-45 cross-kitting-thing, IIRC?  :o

Thought I would do a bit to the wing tips of the kit as they need modifying. Great

I was going to put wing tip missile launch rails there so I better check to see how they will fit.

Can I find the stores I had sorted out for this build  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Can I (insert swear word of your choice)  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Well I continued searching and finally found what I was looking for. Apologies to U2.

As mentioned earlier, I thought about starting work on the wing tips.

The white wing being the Italeri wing, the Grey one being the resin detail set wing with separate flaps and slats.

The tips look like this....

but I want to add wingtip launch rail mounts like this....

Again the white wing is the Italeri kit and the Light Grey kit is the Airfix Hawk 100 series aircraft.

Here the Airfix wing tip is with the detail set's wingtip

To me, and from drawings I have looked at, the T-45 has a squared off wingtip with a bulge on the outside for navigation lights. Not a problem when adding launch rails as the mounts for the launch rails in similar instances has a light above and below the wings near the tips instead of a light at the end of the wingtip.

It also looks as if I will need to extend the wings. Just a few millimetres per wing and straighten the leading edge at the tip as well to come up with some kind of hybrid wingtip that's a mix of T-45 and Hawk 100, so lots of fun there

Al don't ya just love overly complicated jobs to get a fairly simple result ??  :o
No? ..im not surprised...still tho it's coming along nicely 👌
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Gondor

In this case I know what I want to do and roughly how to achieve the end result, however as I prefer to base each build on real world physical and manufacturers ways of doing things that's where the difficulties arise. In this case, two different manufacturers working on what started as the same aircraft and then further modified by each for different requirements. At least I don't have to fold the wings

While shuffeling a few kits through the modelling room stash, specifically the Hawk models, I checked an Airfix Hawk 100 box with a label marked CS-20. Inside the box was an Airfix Hawk 100 as expected and an Air-Graphics BAE Hawk 200 conversion kit. The conversion set includes a resin wing with drooped flaps and seperate wing tip launch rails as well as the nose and a few other items which means that the wings from this kit are available for use.

So the new plan is the remove the parts of the wing that are outboard of the ailerons and replace the tops of the wings from the Italeri kit which makes them longer

Cutting may commence this evening but more likely tomorrow, too many real life things to do at the moment.

Lots of planning certainly. I have swapped the wings I was going to use with another pair from a second Italeri T-45 kit as they were not glued together. This will enable me to drop the flaps and open the slats if I want to do so. I will have to plan it out first to see if it's a reasonable thing to do.

So with haveing a couple of days off work, nothing to do with it being a Bank Holiday, I decided to remove the flaps

The first one removed

That took ages to do as I filed away the most forward part of the flap as it was moulded to the underside of the upper wing half.

Sorry for the poor quality of the shot but this is what I came up with

I am using this

The thought process going along the lines that if I can remove the whole section I will have the full depth which will be easier to make the correct profile with than haveing to add a length of rod or card which may be a fragile as hell.

Maybe I'm just a little mad in stead?

This is not dead, it's merely sleeping!

I plan on getting back into this build after Telford, or I might take the parts with me to work on in my room. Most of the work to be done involves the wings as the fuselage is basically together.
