Ooooh..... could that explain why we got rid of the superfluous U's in some words like "mould?"  ;D     Oddly enough that's the one word I always spell with the U, the proper English way.  ;D

Well if you've got rid of that superfluous "U" you're gonna Need to be using it somewhere....
That would be the U.29....
Of course it'll need longer wings....
I'll leave you to decide how that looks

Regards
Keith.
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Maybe. I must admit some American spellings are far more "user friendly" than ours  Would have saved me a few "lines" at school  ;)

;D  That's a great idea actually......   throw some U-2 wings on an F-5 body......  I think it would look really sharp. Literally and figuratively.

Language and spelling and stuff..... sooooo much of it just seems arbitrary. And here's one....  a famous actor named Sean Bean?  THE NAMES DON'T RHYME. Imagine trying to explain such silly nuance to an extraterrestrial. lmao

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Most language  grammars are a series of rules with an occasional exception.   English, a collection of exceptions with the occasional rule!!

Sean Bean is simple..................what about these surnames?

Cholmondeley     Farquharson  and    Featherstonehaugh,   pronounced Chumly  Farkerson  and Fanshaw

Or even place names like  Leicester   Gloucester   Alcester  and   Torpenhow,  variously pronounced  Lester, Gloster,  Alster  and Trapenna

Then there was the oriental chap who thought that he had mastered just about every quirk of English pronunciation................until he read a
theatrical  review ........."Hamlet pronounced success".............so he went home in disgust!

This is why I find language, maybe English in particular, so fascinating. A British colleague one gave me a list of different ways to spell the "f"-sound. Seven of them, I think, the letter F omitted.
Jolly good fun indeed   ;D
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

There are quite a few places in Scotland that very few get right unless your local. My sat new causes me to chuckle at times with street names as well.

I was always told that American spelling was deliberately different from English English in order to show that they were their own nation after that 1776 misunderstanding. Never been sure how true that was, but it sounded reasonable enough.

Which isn't true, as the 'American' spellings of many words are also found in 'British' sources
that predate the creation of a 'definitive' dictionary, and vice versa. Spelling was all over the
place before the lexicographers started wielding their pens as whips.
;)

Webster, and other American lexicographers, did however decide that the 'simpler' spellings
were more practical.

But it flows

His given name is Shaun but I assume Equity already had one on their books so he became Sean ?
