Long time since I made a military vehicle, and this time, no WhatIf, but i had to build it.
Back in the late 1980s when I "spend my time" at the Bundewehr, I had to drove an Unimog U1300L. So when I saw the little 1/72 scale ace kit, i had to get it.

The kit itself was ok, for most parts. Instructions were bad, wrong numbers in there and some steps were not really logical to make. And if my engineer would not have made a stupid mistake the model would have been ok.... But: Before airbrush the interior of the cabin, she masked the already installed windows. And when the cabin was put on the vehicle, the masking had to be removed. But one was forgotten. So after airbrushing the vehicle form the outside, I removed the masking of the windows and wondered why one masking tape could not be removed. It was was still in the inside... :banghead:

So the model had to be disassembled again to fix that.

Anyway, I have a second, slightly different kit of this vehicle here, and this will be made a WhatIf. When its time to do so.

Together with some other Bundeswehr vehicles.

Very nice. Not easy working on small stuff like that. You did a good job.

Nice! I drove one of those while working on power grid as a line builder back in the very late 80'es. Obviously, the one we used was bright yellow and had a crane and even a small digger arm, but it still ate it's way out almost everywhere.
What kit is that?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Friends of my late father (brothers) had a '68 Unimog they used for their hardware store.  Its one of the few military vehicles I'd still like to get my hands on.

You mean you have an M60 MBT already?  ;)

I wish, but a StuG is more my style.  The American far-right have, like all things militaria, taken civilian ownership of retired military equipment (namely 2.5 & 5 ton trucks) and turned it into "Only tru 'Murican pay-tree-uts can own this!"  :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry:  And that is the last I will say on our freedumb fetishists, as it treads rather close to the "No Politics" rule.

This is a 1/72 scale kit by ACE. There are a few different versions of it:

The one I have made: https://www.scalemates.com/de/kits/ace-72450-unimog-u1300l-military-2t-truck-4x4--1255226

I'll leave the subject with the notion that idiocy seems to be international. My sympathies :-\

Thanks for the kit links, Bearman!  :thumbsup:

Does anyone do the earlier, more rounded version of the Unimog tractor?

We had one at the Railway Technical Centre and it was used for the 'first run' tests of all our test trains/vehicles.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Oooooh, and I already have the APT-E model in 1/76, and that's not so far apart in scale.  :thumbsup:

Not my model, but as they're all the same etc etc. And it's a good pic anyway.

[Later] Ordered one from Big H (they only had one....)  ;D

The Mog looks good as an SF vehicle.

There again, it's:

Chunky;
Has a high ground clearance;
Is armed to the teeth;

so what's not to like? ;D

I confess, if I was able to afford to dabble in former Military vehicles I'd go for a Volvo 'Sugga', because I like my (relative) creature comforts and a closed cab is better than being out in the wind and rain...
Or a WOT2, or Humber 'Box' (for the same reasons).

I, too, have an appreciation for a Volvo Sugga, and would actually like to (after some subtle upgrades) use it as a daily driver.
