After seeing this video: https://youtu.be/oJPGFcXRZZI "P-38 Lightning Why Not Merlin Engines?", by Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles (well worth browsing his back catalogue)

I had a bit of inspiration for a build which results in the option for two.

First off some in progress pictures of some cruelty to a spitfire:

Ill let you guess what the second build might be - its involved a lot of hacksaw work so far.

Well the first two images, worked for me, the supercharger and all.

The intakes on the fuselage, for me, are not quite working as I was expecting to see it under the wings.
The entire idea though is very interesting.

1/48 ?

The Wooksta!

Looks like the old tool (1996) Revell Vb in 72nd.  The wheel wells and lack of gull section give it away.

Nice job on a poor Spitfire.  Nice kit, bad Spitfire.

This is different..i like different  ;D
Is it me or having the side intakes on this Spit make it look even faster ?
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

The side intakes do look a bit weird but I'd make them a bit shallower (not as high off the fuselage) & move them forward a bit to just above the rear wing fairing.

edit: PS: To me the intakes currently make the Spit look tail-heavy & cumbersome.

It's working for me.

Also, just gave me the idea of a Spitty with a Kitty (P-40) intake under the nose. Maybe an Allison powered Spitfire?
Whatever.

PR19_Kit

Surely this one already has an Allison up front?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

It does, but with a P-38 smiley face instead of a P-40 smiley face. ;D

Wow, caught me by surprise! Pretty cool but some (we know their type!) would be having a hissy fit!

I was trying to go for as P-38 a look as possible. Though I was also pondering a P-47 type installation but decided that there wasn't enough internal volume.

Good model spotting skills. It is the revell 1/72 mk V.

It does make it look tail heavy - especially from directly above. But it's as close to the restive position of the P-38's installation as I could muster. It's just aft of the radio bay hatch. As the spits fuselage is about as wide as the P-38s I assumed there wouldn't be any extra internal space available to make the radiators small (plus easier not to have to fettle them too much)
