I think it  looks great.  Wish i'd thought of doing it.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Minimal visible progress unfortunately. A bit of PSR to more evenly fair in the engine on the starboard side.

Most visible change is this:

Cheers Tophe!

Here is a glimpse at part 2:

Some major work still to do. Hopefully it'll resemble something like this:

I am working out how best to re-attach the cockpit to the boom and build up a constant chord centre section.  If I am feeling brave, I will try to extend the cockpit so that I can get a location for the main gear to attach that matches the position on the boom. Alternately Ill look to see what space there might be to move the boom gear forwards (I think not much) but would enable me to do a tail wheel instead of tricycle.

I quite like the Spitty intercooler intakes.  Maybe a smidge on the large side but overall I really like the look of it.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Tophe

Wonderful!
But please keep the model under protection: I clap my hands so much that vibrations risk to destroy it! ;D ;)

Oh Caveman ol son your hitting high numbers with a single engined P38 and man that will be unlike any verison of a P38 ever seen...ive seen tens of thousands of pics of weird planes and tankd and never sewn this before. I freaking love it mate.
A real BV141 vibe but way faster and alot more fire power.
A tail sitter is your only choose really..trying to balance that with a tricycle landing gear would be a total pain and i think it would look pretty damn cool as a tail sitter.
Now imagine that in 32nd scale..i already am
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

As drawing only, I made such a P-38 decades ago:

And a slightly-asymmetric engine-less P-38 of mine, 1/32nd scale, in 2010:

No photos unfortunately. Progress on the spit is slow - mainly little details and tidying prior to decals.

I've been working on the Lightning too but its mainly been to obliterate traces of the original wings from the cockpit pod and booms. So largely nothing to show for it at this point. I have been wondering about a back story though and paint scheme.

The UK trialled the P-38 but ordered it without the turbo for cost(?) reasons:

For my timeline, after the turbo-less P-38 didnt work, an even more imaginative procurement wallah suggested that they might try a cheaper alternative to the P-38 by trialling a variant with 1 engine...

So she'll be in standard RAF camo with minimal markings (conveniently).
