Airfix's Luke Slaney-Hewitt was on the Flypast podcast a couple of months ago and asked about doing the Scimitar but he was pretty clear that there wasn't enough potential reboxing with different version and scheme options for it to fit with their plans.

Just what you'd expect from a non-Whiffer though.

Such thoughts don't stop firms like AZ making the MB5 and the SR53, did it. And who else ALSO did the SR53.................?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Is your impression that the Xtrakit is so bad? Just curious..

I have yet to hear a glowing review of the Xtrakit Scimitar.

Thanks, mate. I have one in the StashTM, but I haven't gotten round to do anything about it. When handling (fondling? ;)) the sprues, it seems ok, though. Somehow, however, it screams "two seater with radar" to me, and I haven't really figured out how to sort that. Yet.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

There was the powder blue one and another spiffy looking one in black for aquaplaning trials

But he would say that, wouldn't he? Keeps the rivals looking the other way  ;)

A guy from my club says that at Telford he talked to the man who did this. Take with a pinch of salt...
"Will who is behind this, is an aeronautical engineer by trade. He plans to release an injection moulded kit of the Scimitar in 1/48 scale under the brand name 'DBM'- 'Dog's Bollocks Models'. Further news on it will be appearing on Britmodeller soon, he said."

Take your time with it and it builds up ok. Not shake and bake, but you'll get there. As far as accuracy goes, I have no idea.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Erm, the Swift FR5 came in two schemes and two squadrons.  And they did that.

Airfix was a VERY different company then and the market was too.  Sadly, the world is run by accountants for shareholders, banks and hedgefunds and bollards to anyone else.

As nice an idea as a new tool scimitar would be, I wouldnt get to excited.
Airfix have been scanning at almost every air museum in the UK. Some of these subjects will end up with kits being released, the majority wont.

Considering a Scimitar kit is not likely to be a massive seller out side of the UK, I suspect it would be a 48th scale offering.
They wouldnt need to shift as many in 48th as they would need to do in 72nd to reach at least break even.

Unless that is, your happy to pay £65-70 plus for a 72nd kit of the type.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Well, if (if) it is released, we need to start working on the whiff aspects. Foreign operators obviously, entailing little more than a different scheme and decals. But then there are the technical aspects. Obviously a supersonic version would be a possibility. Already has an area-ruled fuselage, what else would be required to push it to, say, 1.5 or more?

Burners for a start, but that'd need some SERIOUS heat shielding of the rear fuselage, a la F-4s.

A large radar dish for a land based strike version, with maybe recessed AAMs like the F-4, Tornado etc for an AD Variant?

Heat shielding should be doable, and the extra weight aft would be balanced off by...

...Radar dish! It's needed, if only to change that nose. I know it looks fairly pretty, but to me it always looked as if it was unfinished, and they just rounded it off and shoved it into service. It certainly has the room for it.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Longer wings on the Scimitar PR.19.

Well yes, why didn't I think of that?  :-\

Probably because I hardly ever think of long wings..............  ;D
