NARSES2

There's a couple of kits available of those Supermarine twin engined proposals. I've one of the Unicraft kits in the stash and one day it might end up on the bench. Nice looking aircraft
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Here's one I prepared earlier, maybe 20 yrs earlier, and also Pacific theatre markings. I think it's meant to be a Tiger Force escort.

I can't actually remember all the bits now, but the wings were Airkit resins, and I think the fuselages were Heller. Contraprops from Aeroclub via Narses2, thanks Chris.

A lot older than that. It was at Donnington back in '94, the day I joined the what if SIG.

Exactly, and at my advanced age I've had a LOT of decades.

And the day after tomorrow I'll rack up another tenth of one!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Congratulations to all ones that built those various Twin-Spitfires!
Maybe, as drawing, I may add an asymmetric Twin-Spitfire:  ;)

Ha! Very nice. And today, not a reindeer in sight, so bonus points for that too! ;D

Progress.
Caldwell's Mk VV now decaled and weathered. Ready for final varnish, fiddly bits and finishing touches.
The azure underside has upset the camera, but come out OK on one wing - weird.
Gibbes' Mk VIIIVIII has main camo scheme and is ready for decals, weathering and detail.
There is a lot of history emerging - due to the historical paint shortages, RAAF colours were applied to the new bits of the VV (and paining out the old squadron markings), while the old RAF bits have weathered substantially. Note the piebald effect on the underside of the VV. The VIIIVIII is even more chequerboarded, but the difference in shades is small. The airframe registration Nos. are taken from a couple of wrecks that genuinely did turn up at 14 ARD and were struck off charge, just before construction began. Note too Caldwell's name for the crazy thing, the Wonky Wonder.

My biggest problem was finding a "new" white paint to contrast with the weathered and yellowed/browned white that had been in service under the tropical sun for two years. Common modellers "whites" are horrendously cream coloured, be they Humbrol, Revell or even Tamiya. In the end I reckoned the Aussies would have had much the same quality problem so I settled for Tamiya acrylic single cream.

Cheers.

And the three-legged Twinful is now all in one lump, though much filling and reprofiling around the joints remains.
Note the extra long shafts for the contra-props.

Cheers.

Hi steel,
As you may know im gathering stuff for a Twinfire of my own at the moment and i saw that for the "Mark V-V" the centre sections are made from grey plastic rather than plasticard. Did you cut the wings of the kit to do this or construct it from spares?

Hi, on the two Twinfires I kept the wing inner sections from the kit because they had the u/c wells, flap detail and aerofoil section. I cut the undersides off at the root to get rid of the dihedral, and the upper as well just outboard of the u/c wells because that bit was getting a bad fit. Just the central bit between the wheels is wholly scratchbuilt from card, with a main spar made from lengths of sprue to give the whole thing strength, just like the real Spit. Here's the Mk VV centre section just before assembly:

I also added some card spacing between upper and lower sections at the leading edge, to get rid of the slight taper in height.
Cheers.

With wings that long shes a high altitude bird for sure and if your going for contra propellers this is going to look surpurb..its already looking brilliant Steel
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Contra props on the Twinful, which is an out-and-out speed machine with relatively short span and high wing loading. These three planes cover two very different roles.
Cheers.
