Ever since I saw the artwork and then the Freightdog 1/144 conversion of the Boeing  C-97 as an AEW,  I have always wanted to build a 1/72 scale version.
However in the past I have used the RVHP  Lockheed EC-121L WV2 conversion set and the triple tail fins from a SuperG which don't fit as well as I thought.
This time I am using the 1/72 Academy
C-97A Stratofreighter ,almost straight out of the box apart from the cockpit and rear tail.
The two tail fins are from a Avro Lancaster,  the rotodome and stand are from a Fujimi Grumman E-2A Hawkeye set which was on the Avro-Grumman Charlton AEW.1 but not anymore as that is being Americanized as an alternative to the Lockheed Neptune.
An experimental paint scheme will be applied to

Having snapped off the nose wheel landing gear,  I have repositioned towards the rear and it's no longer a tail sitter.
The wingtip fuel tanks are now glued underneath the ends of the wings, a couple of jamming pods from the AC-130H Spectre II have filled the gaps.
PSR continues.

Good mix!

This build has changed into a maritime patrol aircraft using parts from the Revell 03845 Dassault Atlantic 1 'Italian Eagle/Magpie " kit. I  have another use for the Grumman rotodome.
The engines from the kit will be added to another Breguet Atlantic ATL1 Atlantic at a future date. With a second kit I can use the torpedoes in their racks carried under each wing.
I have attached radome from the EP-3E Orion and glued it to the upper fuselage roof.

This new project seems good too.

Thanks Tophe, I will build the AEW version later on in the year. Now I know what parts to keep.

The view from underneath and you can clearly see the parts from the Revell Dassault Atlantic ALT1 Italian Eagle/Magpie including the new rear wheel landing gear arrangement.

There's a FLIR ball on the chin radome.
Top side , the radar from the Lockheed EP-3E,  with the Magnetic Anomaly Detector boom and the ECM on top of the vertical tail fin.

This is not "twin-boom" but this is good anyway. ;)

PSR continues. With a few parts changed since last time.

This has undergone a few radical changes since you saw it last. It's no longer an anti-submarine hunter aircraft.
It has the nose section from the 1/72 Formaplane Aviation Traders Carvair ATL98  and the blanking plate from the Revell Atlantic ATL1 kit. The other parts have been removed and added to the Avro-Grumman P-5 Charlton.
View from above.

Side view

From the front, but will some paint will look good

It does look a bit like the Breguet Br.1150 at the rear end

The Boeing Waddington C.1 can accommodate seven Ford Anglias in the upper deck cargo hold, with the lower deck for the passengers.

I well recognize the front lump of the Carvair, weird!
I think on the true Carvair, the cockpit is so high to install a car in the nose, do you have a backstory to justify it on your own? ;)

Yes, the question "why? oh why?" will receive an answer at last, thanks! (this is a good teasing) ;)
