Freightdog plans for 2022

Evening Gents,

Been a bit quiet of late, so today I made a little progress on some projects that have been dormant for a while. I thought I'd start a thread covering any projects in 2022 as and when they happen.

First up is a project that was started in October last year following a suggestion from Thorvic, who kindly provided the references with help from James Jackson. The 1975 proposal for the Hawk T.2 featured in James Teach for the Sky book, and seemed like a quick and easy project to get ready to display at Scale Modelworld. Paul Lucas finished the master in record time, allowing me to forward two samples to Mike McEvoy to complete for the show. I had planned to bring a few samples with me, but the dreaded covid got in the way and I couldn't make it.

When Mike passed away I was pretty much ready to release the set, this was the last project we worked on together, when he died I lost all enthusiasm to complete it or any other projects. Thirty sets have been cast and the only thing holding me up is the instructions, and completing a test build. Jan Polc has produced some profiles but there are mistakes in the Sabre missile pylons that still need tweaking.

Today I did some more work test assembling the set with the intended Revell T.1a kit that I started early in November, the two that Mike build for Telford were Airfix and Matchbox (a 200) that he adapted to fit, so this is the first one built using the intended donor kit.

Here is a picture of the assembly so far, with the new tail attached at the panel line immediately forward of the airbrake;

The other set I was test building is real world, a corrected fuselage plug for the Italeri 1/72 Wessex/H-34 family. This had been in my range for a few years but it was not as accurate as I would have liked, so a new master has been done. This project has been ready almost a year waiting for me to test assemble it, I really need to pull my finger out a bit!

With thanks to Gondor for showing me how to post pictures correctly.

Now I know this is a mega-niche suggestion but a Javelin FAW.1 flew as a testbed for Gyron Junior engines.

See https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/291959988338958771/ and plenty more courtesy of Google.  There was an article about it in Aeroplane during 2017: https://docer.tips/aeroplane-monthly-2017-03.html.

So would a 1/72 replacement back end be an attractive idea?

Real world and whif potential, I'd suggest!

Definitely looking forward to the Hawk T.2 conversion and hoping to see it in 1/48, too.

Having been putting it off off a while, finally got the Sabre missile drawings sorted, just need to put together some text and the Hawk set will be ready. Hope to put on the website tomorrow.

Thanks, Colin

Are there any plans to restock on Red Tops, Firestreaks and Blue Dolphin missiles?  Also a set of Blue Waters if you still have any kicking about.

I'd be up for some Blue Dolphins too.

I would not mind a set of Blue Dolphin missiles either, hope we are showing enough interest to have another batch made. Looking forward to the Hawk items being ready as well.

It should be possible to do all the missiles again.

Are you looking for the Blue Water on its own, with the TSR.2 pylons or the whole TSR.2 Blue Water set (with belly tank, IFR etc)?

Thanks, Colin

Blue Waters on their own for a Saro 187 Thunderbolt FGR2 strike version, but if there's enough bits for the TSR2 option, I'd be even happier.

OK I will talk to Paul about the Blue Waters.

In the meantime the Hawk T.2 (1975) conversion is on the website now for £10.50. I also have a handful of Revell Hawk kits that I will sell as a bundle with the set for £20.00, which saves a couple of pounds off the Revell kit RRP of £12.99. If your buying from outside the UK it will be much cheaper to but just the set, and get your Hawk kit locally.

Although designed for the Revell model, with a bit of adjustment you should be able to fit it to other Hawk kits, but if your using a Revell one you need the version with wing pylons, not the Red Arrows boxing.

Thanks,

Colin
