So, for my second build on this forum and my third ever what if build, i want to make a twin fuselage spitfire, inspired by some other projects i've seen. Preferably a Griffon Spit but doesn't have to be, but im stuck on what mission to build this plane for:
- Ground attack aircraft with lots of rockets/bombs?
- Bomber escort for the Invasion of Japan a là F-82?
- High altitude fighter with extended wingtips?
- Long range recon aircraft in overall PRU Blue?
- I'm open to other ideas about it...

I'm for the escort a lá P-82, but the other variants could be mentioned

PS: Not my art, not very good at drawning :P

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Escort would be nice. Extend the fuselages to make room for more fuel.

Ok then lets put 2 ideas together.
High Altitude long range escort fighter with extended wings...using either a MK 19 or MK 24s
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I believe Griffon Spitfires must carry some weight in the tail to balance right. So, a little more length behind the wing might not be a bad thing.

Perttime the griffon powered Spitfires didnt need a balance weight added as these verisons where bigger than the earlier marks..the MK24 for example was so much bigger than say a MK9 it wasnt needed.
The 24 was longer..heavier..fact i think nearly twice the weight but what alot of ppl dont know is the Griffon was like 10 ltrs larger and twice the power (in later verisons) but lighter in its weight.
I was told by a old Rolls Royce engineer .. he was a friend of my dads..  that they wished they had came up with the Griffon first as it was a better engine than the Merlin but they had to come with the Merlin first so they could come up with the Griffon..makes sense to me
If i remember right the Merlin was like 27ltrs and the late Griffon was 38ltrs in size.

Yes, the Griffon had almost exactly the same displacement as the R Type engine from the Schneider racers.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That might be interesting, although I'm leaning towards recon at the moment.

Current plan: use the Airfix FR.XIV kits but keep the regular wingtips and remove at least some of the guns. For a PRU Blue recon aircraft over Asia in 1945/1946 (no Hiroshima/Nagasaki situation).

Don't forget to get one prop to spin the opposite direction. On the F-82 the first prototype had the props turning away from each other at the top which canceled the lift over the center wing. Switching the engines left for right cured the problem.

Looks like someone on Britmodeller had a similar idea!

Trust me bud theres a ton of those concepts out there..i even got a pic of a twin F86 Saber which looks very cool.
Theres quite a few real twin aircraft out there from the DeHavilland Otter to i believe a twin Piper Cub ..they make a twin engined conversion for them.
So dont feel despondent over it mate..just build your own verison.
