That's not the US Embassy, it's an apartment block at 22 Gia Long Street in Saigon, an Air America UH-1 & CIA officers doing what they could in the chaos.

This is the building now;



These are images of the US Embassy during the final days/hours leading to the fall of Saigon;

















Evacuations from the Embassy were usually conducted by US Marine Corps heavy lift helicopters;

Sometimes I think we in the West love to ignore the suffering of the people trying to get out in these images in our desperation to have a dig at the United States.

Remember, these people didn't want Communist rule, just as many (if not most) Afghans don't want Taliban rule.

Just hold on to the fact that in both the conflicts alluded to, the US stayed to the bitter end & did what they could to assist the local population, while their allies cut & ran, leaving many who had relied on them to whatever fate awaited them.
