I screwed up big time last night. I thought I could paint the turquoise upper hull seperately, then paint the white superstructure hull piece seperately, then glue together the two finished painted pieces. Nope. Not going to work that way. Trust me. Not sure what made me think that way, but it ended up being wrong. Guess my brain cells weren't working correctly last night.
So this afternoon, I had to strip off all the turquoise paint from the upper hull piece.
What I should have done was the following:
Glue upper hull piece to superstructure hull piece.
Mask off superstructure hull piece and paint upper hull turquoise.
Then mask off turquoise upper hull and paint superstructure hull piece.
And somewhere in there is all the in-between chores of sanding, filing, puttying, and inserting the well deck pieces.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Brain fart.  Happens to us all.
You look at it and think "why did I do that?".
Sometimes you even know it's wrong while you are doing it, but you carry on anyway.

You might want to do most of you well-deck detailing on the forward bulkhead, which people looking in through the rear may be able to see (a couple of hatches, piping, etc.). Otherwise; good call! :thumbsup:

Maybe. I'm not sure how much detailing I want to do in the well deck. Once the hull pieces are glued together and the rear bulkhead piece is attached, a person can't see much in there anyway. And it'll be dark too as I won't be having any lighting inside.
As for the exterior of the ship, the hull pieces are at a standstill as I can't do much with them till I order some photoetch parts.

You could probably get away with the odd shape on the bulkhead, picked out in a slightly different grey or two - the suggestion of detail, and let people's imagination 'fill in the blanks'...

Very sensible advice, Rick!   Vague suggestions of detail, and in a few months time, people who have seen the finished item will describe all sorts of things that they are sure that they "saw" there.     It's looking good so far.

Just an FYI that this model project is now on indefinate hiatus.
I'm not sure when or if I might get back to it again. :(
There's a different project I want to start hopefully soon to eventually be completed
in time for the 2024 IPMS Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin.
