I wonder how hard this would be to do with a Mustang. The belly scoop would be a problem.

Make it into a bomb aimers gondola.
When Northrop/Douglas developed the 8A (Gamma 2F/A-17/A-17A/A-33)for export sales they added in
a retractable bomb aimer position in the belly. Photos of the tub in the lowered position are rare.

8A-5/A-33 Erection & Maintenance Manual if anyone has the urge to detail a model. ;)

Tub, photo is looking aft, the aimer's window is in the angled face.

The Vickers Varsity had a 'bomb bay' and bomb aimer's position under the belly too. OK, it was a nose wheel aircraft but the principle's similar.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Have always found the Varsity an attractive aircraft and often wonder whether the Vickers Viking/Valetta (from which the Varsity evolved) would have sold in greater numbers had it been a tricycle undercarriage type (so essentially the Varsity from the off).

The Valetta is just much more modern-looking than its tail-wheel antecedents.

Thread hijack over - apologies.

I've always found those Northrop/Douglas export designs fascinating
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks 63cpe, I have been inspired by your twin-engined Spit for my collection of Mustang drawings.
Now your name lights in glorious letters... (joke, as my collection is not a museum of glory) ;)

Would be nice ( 4 me ) to use only the original cockpit and turn it into a 4 person commando deck .
Great project !
It's a Land Rover, NOT a Jeep . Like a Jeep, but for gentlemen.

Love the profiles Tophe. May I "borrow"them?

@ Killnoizer: Mmmm, I do have an 1:48 P-51 in the pile of  build models....tempting suggestion. It might be usefull to have a EA-1 canopy at hand.

The P-51B-63C is reminiscent of the De Havilland Comet racer.

You are very right, that is an explanation of its beauty (as the DH Comet racer was SO beautiful)....
