As I've had official confirmation that I can start sawing plastic, I'd better start a build thread, complete with the required pics.

Here then is the Supermarine Defender F3, the RAF's first swept wing fighter, beaten into service only by the Me-262.

The boxes.....

And the components.

And how it will look when it's done, hopefully.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Oh to be whiffing again :-(

The Wooksta!

If you'd asked, I could've passed along the relevant swept surfaces, as I'm doing the Nene Type 528 Swift. I moulded all the surfaces from the Magna Swift F1.

You'd be better off starting with a 510 from Whirlybird. I think Gondor had one he didn't have a user for.

Looks like a lot of wing area. A lot of lift, perhaps. You might have to move main undercarriage forward to keep it as a taildragger (??)

PR19_Kit

I only drew the wings up y'day.  ;D

They're not whole Swift or 510, but a mix of both, and they need to be big to get to the altitude required.  ;)

Gondor

I still have that 510 put to one side for you Lee.

I think the drawing looks a little bit H.P.88 to my eyes.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

It's half a Swift and half an Attacker.

A "Swittacker"?  ;)

To be nicknamed 'Roger' (swittacker) because of the whistling noise it's engine makes ?  :o

I do think, Kit, that you should be considering a trike u/c for this.

Then it would be much of a Swift.

The backstory will say that the RAF wanted a swept wing fighter SO much that they'd put up with a few scorched runways and taxiways.  ;D

The Wooksta!

It would still have been called Swift - that was the name for everything in the development programme, from the Type 510 to the in service aircraft.

The backstory will tell why it's called the Defender...............

Most of it's already written in my head.  ;)
