Ok heres the idea and thanks to Scotaidh and Zenrat this idea has come to the surface.
Why you ask or dont  ;D
Well Scotaidh sent me this AMT Piranha which is a absolute pile..bad detail..crap fitting parts and poor Zenrat has the drag verison and yep mate it will suck to build.
Well i love hill climb cars..the ture monesters like a black Mitsubishi EVO with huge aero and over 1000HP owned by a gent named Simon..check out hillclimb monsters on YouTube and youll find it and many others like a 1600HP R34 GTR.
Looking at the POS model it clicked..turn it into a hill climb car..so i needed a another car for the wheels and aero ..won a Tamiya F1 car for a song which will be the bases for this build.
Suspension and drive train..steering wheel and so on..heres the kicker...the model dont have a engine in it ..tamiya never made one for it so now im looking for a cheap V8 powered car to rip its engine out for this project.
Its getting a scratch built roll cage ..a ten pointer..fully modded body but im keeping the gull wing style doors the model has..they'll look cool..soon as i score another car im in like sin of this.
Didn't want to get back into building cars because here now...holy poop pickles guys ..the prices are totally out of control but ill keep hunting .

Seeing the title, I first imagined Icelandic style Hill Climbing  ;D

This'll be good.

You're right about the prices of car kits.  They are ridiculous here.
Let me have a look in the stash and see what I can find.  I think i might have an engine for you.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

That would be great if ya got something Fred ..if not i do have a mate whos willing to do a deal on a 360 modena hes thinking of selling but as they say..2 engines are better than 1

Damn right i got a message Fred mate and now i have news for this post.
This car will now be a ture monster with a tunnel rammed 427 big block V8..cause of the engine layout ..its mid mounted so ill have to scratch build a gearbox for the drive shafts and suspension which soundnt be to much of a problem ..the problem will be the twin turbos i have in mind .

Or you can go the lightweight direction which involves a lot of bouncing up and down from the rear seated passengers to gain traction. I drove a Mercedes Vitto for St.Dunstan's charity for the war blind. Many times the fundraising department chose a muddy field to set up their tent on an event day, the Vitto became a rally car unlike the TX1 taxi which required a tractor to extract it!

Wardukw

Oh this will be a lightweight all right..its going to be a alloy V8 not cast iron ..carbon fiber bits here and there ..i think this might be a Pikes Peak open class car so theres no rules apart from safety ..its going to have F1 wings back and front but ill scratch but most of the rear one as thr one i have is far to narrow.
Going with the Pikes Peak open class idea works better than building it for Europe whos tracks are tight with a ton of corners.
Pikes Peak is more out right speed in many more places than corners .

Some news on the prebuild bit....
I wanted to make this thing twin turboed and i thought that was going to be a problem..turns out its not..a guy here makes or suppiles  25th scale 3D printed car bits so im gonna score 2 big arse turbos for $6.50nz  ;D
Also a race seat and 2 wings as i want this to have a double plain wing as the one which the F1  came with is far to narrow..another issue sorted
Im thinking of putting a smaller diameter tire on the front rims as the F1 tires are quite large but if i cant find tires to fit ill stick with the F1 ones and mutate the hell out of this thing.
More updates to follow when i have more news .

Innerestin'.

Hillclimb is still one of the most amusing of motorsports in terms of oddball machines.

I have both versions of the Piranha and to be fair it's a very old kit. If AMT had supplied a vacuform
body it would have been accurate as the body of the real car was thermo-formed Cycolac plastic.
;)

Decent site about the history of the CRV/Piranha:

Wardukw

Agreed Jon..love hill climb just for that reason..odd ball allright with in most cases huge horsepower..another thing i love  ;D

Yeah i got a pretty good idea at the age of this kit but what gets me is the drag car is still priced at nearly $50nz which to much for this pile.
Fred has the drag one and if its anything like this on its gonna be a terrible model and for it not to be terrible will require alot of work ..i will admit AMT did replace the tires with new ones and they look pretty good ..shame their X ply..ill never us them.

That website looks bloody intresting Jon..had a quick look and when i saw Don Garlits ..now thats a name which always gets my attention..Gene Whitfield does too ..will be a very good time waster

Well lads the engine for this beast arrived today so the planning begins on this thing.
Ive got plan the layout of the engine and trans axle ..which i have to build from stratch .
One thing will be relocating the rear wheel arches to make the install easier..this is a twin turbo 427 V8 going in there so room is gonna be needed .
The turbos will be high mounted for better air flow so ill have to build a roof mounted intake scoop for it too.
The cool thing is that the original shape of the car wont be wiped out..you'll still see what it used to be .

Update time.
Its got 3/4 of a roll cage now amd i say 3/4 cause ive run out of 2mm rod which is bloody typical but ive now got more on the way .
The engine is taking shape..its no longer going to use carburetors ..going fuel injected with four fuel rails and a custom made intake which is a long way from being done..i have to build throttle bodies X 2 ..one for each turbo and its very likely I'll have to cut the turbos inhalf to get the positions im going to need..the headers are from  god knows what car from forever ago and strangely they are going to work quite well .
Im waiting for ...another car to turn up ..a Lola T800 indie car is going to donate some of its bits and pieces and possibly its wheels to as the F1 wheels are to damn big.
Ill post pics later this week of how this is going  ;D
