I finally got my airbrush room back!  <_< <_<
It had my daughters furniture stored in it and I couldn't paint any of my models.
However now she moved out again and today I did my first run of colours.

So here is the (as yet unpainted) Sea Lightning FR-1, featuring a swing wing for carrier use.
Scale is 1/48.

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Weird idea!

But based on an RW proposal.

Is that an F-14 wing assembly I see there?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Fuselage from an Airfix 1/48 Lightning, wings from a Hasegawa F-14 Tomcat

Just a short update.
I.m back from holiday and have started painting the Sea Lightning. The underside is done and I put up one layer of paint for the top. However, that doesn't cover completely so I need to do another layer tomorrow.

The first shot from above looks as if Kit had tried to mod a Su-17/22 to his taste!  ;)

The Sea Lightning FR-1

When the Lightning entered RAF service in 1960 the Royal Navy was very interested in the high performance aircraft. However it was clear that a Lightning would never be able to land and take off from an aircraft carrier. To remedy this, English Electric  proposed a swing wing version of the lightning to the navy. The navy eagerly accepted and in 1962 the first Sea Lightning took off and made its first carrier landing.

The Sea lightning entered service in 1964 and served in the Royal Navy until 1989.

Plans for the export of the Sea Lightning to India and Spain fell through because the aircraft carrier of these countries were too small to handle the landing speeds of the Sea Lightning which were still quite high despite the variable wing.
