Back to the core subject: hardware phase almost finished, and painting is about to begin. I am taking WiP pics, but it will take some time until I update previous posts. Might only happen when I publish the background story and beauty shots.

The Wooksta!

Before you start painting.  Matchbox for some unknown reason moulded stencil detail as fuselage detail.  The two dashed lines around the rear fuselage need sanding off.  Those are the most prominent.

They obviously had an ex-Aurora tool maker working for them at the time.......
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Hasegawa did them, too, but they are not as huge as on the Matchbox kit.  ;)

I wondered what they were.  But as I was sanding all the raised detail off the fuselage of the Delta I didn't worry too much.
It's based on a Hasegawa F6 from '73 which has no guns or cockpit floor.  Only interior detail is a pilot on a seat which glues to a sloping bulkhead.

The Wooksta!

For many years, the lack of belly guns made that ideal as an early F6 or with some minor surgery an F2A.

I seem to have an improved mold of that kit, as it has a cockpit floor (just a bare panel, though) and a dashboard - which, when you build the kit according to the instructions, is mirrored to the instrument decal on the sheet?!  :o

The Wooksta!

Hasegawa gave it some slight revisions in the mid 80s.

Must be that kit - it's also has a rather moderrn boxing with a low-viz Lightning as box art.

Progress on the model is good; basic colors have been applied, but the I remembered that I wanted to implant a radar warning fairing to the top of the fin, as well as some chaff/flare dispensers along the tail. Gotta add that fairing now on short notice...

I've built several from that one.   Pretty sure that the Libyan one I did years back is that one, plus the delta that I started but didn't finish due to a sudden impact with the floor.
Think there are at least another two with that box art, one of which is end opening.

Mine's this one, from 1992, and scalemates describes it as "new tool" variant.

Gondor

The main change from previously was done to the front of the underfuselage fuel tank to change it into the gun pack, not much else other than the decals changed.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

The Wooksta!

They generously gave you a cockpit floor and a stick. And charged new kit prices for a warmed over 60s tool.

Heat is at the moment stalling further progress. Worked on the ordnance yesterday and perpared the basic paint for weathering, but nothing much else has happened.  :-\
