One float under each engine Rufe style

Getting back into modeling

retro_seventies

Morning!

having slept on the matter, i'm pitching the ugly duckling #2 right out - wasn't happy with it when i drew it, and still can't stand it now...the whole point of a beaufighter flying boat was to make her a bit of a foxy lady, not a total hound.

Steve - thanks, and you would be horrified if you knew what i blew!

IMWFO - i thought about the float idea, but the beaufighter's a sturdy lass as it is, and although it doesn't look bad, she's just too darn tall for me.  I thought about the duck idea too, as i pretty much made a goose out of the beau for number 2, but i dunno...that's a pretty fugly beak.

i'm gonna play with #1, with the retractable planing hull, and engines above the wing.

breakfast first though, of course.

seriously guys, thanks - this is why i love throwing these ideas out here.

Top stuff, Ben!

Making me think of a COIN Beau now -- STOP IT! FER THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

so this is the engine above wings one...think i'll redesign the forward fuselage though.

nice SAR bird, and could be a pretty good all rounder for all kinds of things.

Those drawings are great!  Maybe you can combine the gull wing & high engine concepts on your flying boat Beau?! ^_^

Now it looks like a baby Catalina, or maybe an armed Goose.

One aspect you might want to chuck is that knife-edge step. It's a bugger to carve*, but they unstick from the water easier. The Sunderland I and II had the knife-edge but it was curved for the IIII, IV (Seaford), and V.

*Is instantly reminded of yet another go at the Transall-from-hell and reaches for bottle...  <_<

If the props are gonna smash the water on that delicious looking first design, then why not put jets on it?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Your intitial design was the best..........so how about some mini-props, like the first Meteor had ?

You could also do mini-contra-props, and/ or lift the engines a tad as Ev suggests.

Now shaddap an start beelding !

what is this "beelding" that you speak of?

you mean take the little plastic puzzles out of the boxes?

are you sure?

ahem.

anyway, back to the flying boat quandary - did somebody say jets?

may i kindly offer for your abuse and ridicule, the Gloster Marlin, a high winged seaplane Meteor.

Useful in an extended 1945+ pacifc theater?

 Very nice one! And that explains why the SR/A1 has been cancelled: the Royal Navy knew that, soon, the 70s would bring this much better Gloster Marlin... :)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

don't have a meteor kit - YET...

will look for one today, and then i think i'm actually gonna build this one...she just looks right, eh?

OH man, GORGEOUS! I would rearrange the forward planing section to bring it clear of the water, but other than that I love it.

Let's see, I've got my Transall on the go, you've got both a Beaufighter and a Meteor, many others here are showing interest, looks almost like we've got some sort of group build going.  ;)
