Quote from: kitbasher on November 04, 2022, 01:35:13 AMKitnut617: having delved a little further into Clydes, Pythons, Centauruses and Griffons, I concur with your conclusions regarding Clyde over Python.  For starters, the latter is as you say half as heavy again as the former (I'd not realised the RR Eagle weighed pretty much the same as a Python; the Clyde was similar in weight to the Centaurus and Sabre).

Not only much lighter, but the most powerful of the three engine options, 4000 shp

Over on SPF, I came across a snippet of info in a thread about the Vickers Windsor, someone had posted that the Windsor Mk.II would have been Clyde powered --- There was a drawing of it too where the nose of the aircraft looked a bit like a Short Shetland ---

I've long considered a Python Firecrest. If I can find the cowling, I'll pass it on.

Mustard test build, probably my easiest kit to build to date.

This is using the proposed Spectre recovery rocket in the tail.

Thanks, Colin

If you are doing variations on the Supermarine 327, perhaps a two-seat radar-equipped nightfighter would make sense?  The cannons are not in the nose, so a radar installation would be less complicated than some and the canopy could be modified, much like P-51D canopies, to cover a second seat.

Looking good, Colin!

Colin, if you've any Canberra P.12 bits about, I'm anxious to get at least one radome and a few pars of the missiles.  The P.12 I'm doing has the pylons for Red Top as that version, with another Matchbox Cranberry in the stash to do another.

That looks lovely, I'm gonna need one.  I won't be at Telford Colin, but I'll order it from your shop.  I've got a particular scheme in mind (not yellow).
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

No problem Mossie, it will go on the website next week.

Thanks, Colin

That does look like it would work nicely for high speed glide testing after release from a Vulcan, or other V-bomber.  The concept of a "Raspberry Ripple" Vulcan could entail quite a paint job.

Great, I'll keep an eye out for it going up.

I'll be watching for it too.  Any update on offering the BAC Sabre missiles from the Hawk T.2 set as a standalone weapons set?
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

But it would look MAGNIFICENT!   ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I was thinking on this when it was originally mentioned. I know "Raspberry Ripple" SCREAMS test and evaluation (in all it's various guises) but I personally like/prefer the idea of the light grey and red scheme seen on some of the Hawker Hunters and other aircraft in a slightly earlier time-frame to Raspberry Ripple. A grey Vulcan with red 'detailing' would look pretty different (mmmm.... there's an idea for a spare 1/144 Vulcan model!  ;D )
Oh to be whiffing again :-(
