The Wooksta!

Just finished in time for Telford, but still sans undercarriage doors, this is the Hawker Demon F1 of 222 sqn.

In actuality, this is the early version of what became the Hunter. I did have a go some years back but it was too long - in fact, it's close to the P.1071. Anyway, I'd started scratchbodgeing one but decided that moulding and casting it was a better idea - bugger one up, just cast another. Bugger the master and you're very unhappy to say the least.

The fuselage master was a noxious brew of Novo Hunter F1 front end, a Matchbox Hunter back end and a lot of superglue and baking soda. Cockpit, nosegear by and bullet mount is all one piece using bits left over from a Revel Hunter that will end up as a two seater.
I can't cast undercarriages, so it was stolen from an Airfix one. Decals from Xtradecal. I did want to use the markings for 43 sqn, as they were the first to get Hunters, but their checkerboard squadron bars were too big for the fuselage.

Really like how this has come out. A second is on the cards, although it will end up as the prototype WB188.

And the P.1071?  Well, I have a pair of resin fuselage and an Ho 229 for the wings.  Perhaps the nice red scheme of the Hunter F3?

I really like that. Is it shown in the Putnam 'Hawker' book?

I honestly don't know, I used the drawings in F K Mason's book on the Hunter.

And here's one of them that I took.

The T tail Hunter behind is also mine, although possibly too long. Markings of one of the OCUs and the first Hunter down by the late Mike McEvoy.
Had to be finished for Telford as it was a tribute to him.

Both are very nice builds, Lee.  Your Demon (a P.1067/1) and T-tail Hunter would bookend my P.1067/5 (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=36649.msg926208#msg926208) nicely.

So here's a thought.  The first production Hunter F.1 first flew in 1953 and the sole F.3 broke the World Air Speed record later that year.  I'll put money on there being a 'Hunter In Service' theme to SMW 2023 so maybe the What If? and Project Cancelled SIGs could put together a combined display of Hunter projects and whifs at Telford '23 - from the very first P.1067 proposal to the early P.1103 (that was to me a 'Super Hunter') and beyond (including the P.1128 Huntsman)?

Martin, what do you think?

I like that idea, we could almost do it now with models that have been built in the last few years!

P.1121 would also be worth adding,  and possibly the P.1129 as the ultimate development. And P.1081 as an alternate path not taken.

I'm definitely in. And I can start planning now.

So 70th anniversary of the Hunter's first flight and 120th anniversary of the Wright Bros next year then ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Nick

I like this idea of a Hunter build. Should be able to finish one or two by then.

It'd be funny if we had more Hunters than the Official Hunter Display  ;D

Dave had already mentioned P.1103, at least in it's early form it's essentially a bigger Hunter.  We don't currently have an F.155 P.1103* kit, although Alistair is looking at it.

But yes, P.1125 definitely.

*At least one variant could be converted from a P.1121.
