Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Quote from: The Wooksta! on February 18, 2023, 04:34:57 AMA care package arrived from Arran today, comprising a ow low level Viper engined Blue Steel and an AW.169. the latter is going as recce type, rather than a fighter.

Glad they arrived ok, rewinging the AW169 for high altitude work & adding tanks for loiter time?

No, just adding tip tanks and some self defence Firestreaks on underwing pylons. The rocket will be replaced with a recce back,or something that resembles one anyway...

Received this morning from Fantasy Printshop via eBay

1 x 1/72 Euro Decals ED-72116 Gloster Meteor FR.Mk.9 to go with the Airfix Club kit

1 x 1/72 Euro Decals ED-72109 Messerschmitt Emils Part 1 which has lots of markings for the smaller Axis Air Forces

Last night i came across a short documentary about the Blackburn Firebrand and a few minutes later ordered a Valom 1/72 Firebrand B.46 TF.Mk.V from SuperHobby. I'd been curious about that plane for a long time and as i can't find a TF.MkII at a reasonable price the Mk.V will do cause i find both to be very good looking aircraft.

Won a Hobbycraft CF-100 MkV on ebay last night.

Why would I do that when I'm a zillion years old and have over 1000 unbuilt kits?

a) I've never had a CF-100 kit, ever

b) it was stupidly cheap, like £8.00! It'd have been rude not to get it when others are going at £40+

c) It's a 50s aeroplane............
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That has the parts do make a Mk.IV as well as that's what I have when I wanted to get a Mk.V

Yep, i believe it's the same sprues for both boxes, at least that's what it looks like in the Superhobby site. They have pics of what's in the box and instructions, decals, etc,, so when i was choosing which box to buy, i chose the Mk.V for the decals as that was the only difference i found.

For the Esteemed Members in the USA, if you have an Ollie's store in your area they currently have a stock of Monogram kits in.  Varies by location, and mine didn't have a big selection but they are all $12.99.  My location their Ford Trimotor, Corvette C6 (I think) Lamborghini Diablo, and F-84. I picked up the Diablo for something different.  It'll either end up as an OOB dream machine or a post-apocalypse Fast Recon platform.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Wow, great score at £8!

So for the 50s GB it needs a pointier radome and a better looking fin/rudder.  A scaled up Meteor F8 fin/rudder would be ideal.

Quick and minor changes that will mess with the minds of the JMNs, especially if you put it in Canadian  or Belgian markings.

Oh, and 4 Sparrows under the wings.

OR

Convert it to a "Mk.VI" with tip tanks and four Falcons plus two Genies on underwing pylons.

Slight variation on your idea, Weaver - swap over F-89 tip tanks and missiles.  Or is that what you're implying?

No, I meant a loadout similar to an F-89J, with the Falcons & Genies on underwing pylons and Mk.III-style all-fuel tip tanks. The F-89J could carry fuel+FFAR tip pods as an option, but I suspect that's pushing the CF-100's wing a bit far. I'm supposing it'll need the extra fuel in the tip tanks to compensate for the higher throttle setting needed to overcome the drag of the external stores though. However, fitting F-89H Falcon+FFAR pods and claiming a reinforced wing would certainly make a good whiff.

The real Mk.VI was a proposal to fit 4 x Sparrow IIs on underwing pylons as a halfway step to the CF-105, but it was never approved. You could say that the Falcons & Genies were substituted for the Sparrows when the latter ran into development difficulties.

They didn't proceed with the proposed use of the CF-100 as a tactical fighter-bomber because of wing
strength concerns.
