I'm tempted to get a couple more, how about an Eagle Mustang? Or an Eagle Corsair even?

There's some cowlings in the growing box of bits for you.

Eagle Mustang? I'd start with a P-82 and turn it back to a single fuselage.  Corsair would be a lot of work.

And of course I have exactly that left over from the Tri-Stang!  ;D

Oh sure, the Corsair would be a busy job, but very akin to Dave Kitbasher's Eagle Sea Fury.

Another round of PSR on the nose.

This should be the last time for the upper nose, I will move onto other parts when I sand back the excess tomorrow evening.

Sadly it turns out that there aren't any more Eagle mouldings left, and the moulds need some work before any more can be made.

What is the best way to store silicone molds for the future? A cool dry place?

The Wooksta!

Yes, but not in cardboard boxes as it leeches the elasticity from the rubber.  In addition, best to leave a casting in to ensure it doesn't warp.

Quote from: Gondor on September 22, 2024, 01:17:55 PMKit, if you get several of these engines you could put two on an early Meteor!

Now THERE'S an idea!

It'd need MUCH longer landing gear to clear those monster props though.

Maybe two on a Mossie, or a Hornet even?

That actually sounds pretty good, especially on a Hornet.  Hornet Mk 1s I believe had about 4,000hp total from the two Merlins they had fitted, so replacing those with Eagles should give it 6,400hp!  Might put it over 500mph!

A little more progress. More PSR completed and a coat of grey brushed on to show if even more PSR and how much is required. The answer is yes, but not too much.

I am also using the grey paint as a sort of primer and defect finder. Hopefully some proper paint next week.

Unfortunately, the shape has need of more PSR  :banghead:

Which is a pity as I was looking forward to painting it.

I have decided on the markings for this build. It will be a machine from 601 Squadron RAuxAF RAF Turnhouse. So Aluminium overall and the decals from the Xtradecal set for late Spitfires which I have no idea where my set has ended up at the moment. One order with Hannants and I have a fresh set that will arrive in the coming week which should be here in plenty of time.

I have fitted the tail feathers today, added a little filler to the joints too. I have also started work on the undercarriage, it makes it easier when painting the aircraft one colour to have it able to stand on its own three legs as it were. I am thinking of using Hu 56 for this build, the P-53 being the same colour but by Hataka so they should be similar but different.

It's been a little while since the last post for this build. The main undercarriage legs are on, in fact, everything to do with the undercarriage except the large doors and the wheels. The tail wheel has been fitted as well but not the doors.

Today I gave the model a coat of paint.

I'm not happy with it so in a day or so I will be repainting the aircraft with a different colour. It's getting there though.
