The correct colour for Airwolf's upper surfaces is Dupont Phantom Grey.  It's not black.

I mixed mine to be as close to the screen shots as I could.  Basically very dark grey

I tend to agree with you.

Honestly I have fantasized quite a bit about how to modify the Airwolf concept to make it actually work.  I still don't have all the details worked out, but I would start with a Bell 430 instead of a 222, and use the rotor system from the UH-1Y.  The stub wings/sponsons would need to gain quite a bit of span and chord to accommodate a pair of M230 chain guns and their ammunition feeds.  The guns would be mounted fairly far forward in the stub wings, allowing them to rotate backward for stowage.  As for the silly missile launcher under the fuselage, I would replace it with a fairly deep weapons bay, complete with a rotary launcher for Hellfire and Stinger missiles.  This would probably take up most of the space for the third crew member in the back, so only the two front seats would remain most likely.  Any leftover vertical space back there would probably get taken up by avionics, extra fuel, and ammunition drums for the M230s (which would need a system to make sure they both fired exactly at the same time, or we'd have the rotary equivalent of an S.199!).  I would also move the nose gear farther back to allow for a FLIR ball mount under the nose (retractable of course), and a derivative of the APG-66 radar in front of the pilots.  With a pair of J-85 engines, four ATAS, 8 Hellfires, structural strengthening, and about 600 rounds of 30mm ammunition, you get a heli with an all-up weight of between 12,000 and 15,000lb.  Not a bad thrust to weight ratio when you have 10,000lb of thrust to play with.  My math is a bit rough, but it does take into account the real-world weights of the weapons, engines, and ammunition, plus the takeoff weight of the 430 and assuming some of that weight gets replaced since the missiles and ammunition would have to go where the passenger compartment is in the 430, probably with ammunition feeds worked underneath the J-85s and out to the M230s.

Even if you could find it and afford it (I believe it's still available as a specialist finish) the metallic flakes are large.  I saw it on a RC model once and the flakes were overscale even on such large kit.  I believe the flakes are the reason Airwolf doesn't look the same colour in two shots.  At least that gives a little artistic freedom to work with.

IIRC, there's a supplier of paint that uses mica rather than aluminium.  They supplied paints for model cars but I can't remember what they were called as it's about 13 years since I saw them mentioned on Britmodeller.

Depends on cost? Halfords are now charging eleven notes for a bog standard can of primer.

Only the first season is worth watching. It rapidly gets worse partway into the second season.  IMO, there's about four episodes from season 2 and two from season 3 worth watching, the rest are just too awful  or downright banal to sit through.

Yeah most of the episode plots for Airwolf weren't great.

Local TV never showed this, so I had the first chance to view this in late 00's after DVD releases and clips thereof found their way online.

I started watching a random episode where "MiGs" were supposedly scrambling to intercept the titular helicopter. To save budget, the entire sequence excluding the shots of Airwolf itself was cut together from newsreel clips, so the "MiGs" were represented by about five notably different aircraft (some of which were not MiGs or even Soviet aircraft). Around the time they fired missiles at the Airwolf - represented by a plane emptying its rocket pods - I decided to quit watching.
