Quote from: Weaver on February 03, 2023, 04:00:24 AMThat kind of black and white dazzle might actually be very effective in space (in a Star Wars context, of course), where everything's bright highlights and deep shadow, with no atmosphere to take the edge off the contrast.

I could see this being quite effective in a space environment against a virtually black background, to disrupt the fighter's outlines and alignment, similar to the WWII dazzle ships. I don't think that it is intended to conceal the vehicle?

No, the idea would be to make it visually confusing in a dogfight so that the opponent hesitated or misread the X-wing's intentions.

This only applies in Star Wars style dogfights, of course. In real space combat, cammo will very probably be redundant since nothing will conceal your heat signature against the coldest background it's physically possible to get.

Hahaha..yeah I think it's something like that  ;D

Well with some more hunting I've found a new camo for this thing..it's geometric if I remember right ..the colours in the pic are green..tan and black ..those can change the black for one thing will be gray..dark or medium but and yep ...a but...the way it's done the black isn't in a large amount so if I stick with this scheme I'll use a black/gray or a off black ..like tyre black to tone the black down a bit.
It's built now chaps..was going to paint the cockpit today but that will be tomorrow because I decided to change the torpedoe launch tubes.. or what's ment to be torpedoe tunes anyway..now since this is a modified version the tubes a slightly longer and can at least be seen.
I'm not sure when I'll be posting up some pics as we've been trapped in our little town for the last 3 and a half days and it's gonna me another one or two at least.

Bring it on, looking forward to seeing what you do

Well it's under coated as we speck and it's gonna be a few hours waiting for it to dry...might even be tomorrow as it's pretty humid here at the mo...right now it's very very black  ;D

All right then lads ...paint has then thrown at this thing and if just happened to land in all the right places  ,,sweet  ;D
First off the cockpit ...im not worried about how the paint looks alone the side of the front part as this cant be seen anyway once its in place which it now is ,,,so this si how it looked after the painting part was out of the way ...

The pilot is a modified F-16 pilot from a Academy kit and surprisingly he didnt take a lot of work to make him fit and he looks far better than the dude supplied in the kit .

Now the paint job on the X wing itself ...i wanted something different but not boring and normal ,,,yep i did a fare amount of hunting on the net to get ideas and i found one with i quite liked but didnt want to copy  out right ,,so i messed around with it a bit and came up with this .
At this point its fresh out of the pot so to speck ...now i have painted engines ,,,guns and intakes and its gloss coated for the weathering which is not going to be light ,,,looking at pics of X wings from the movies and fan sites these things are not clean by any means and being that they are Rebel craft you'd expect it .
There will be a back story as the markings i am going to use are not the normal ones you see ,,,like the red lines down the side of the fuselage  .

The next installment of this build will be the finished build which might be a little while away ,,,the big arse storm which is meant to hit us could slow things down as its expected that we will loose power at some point and its pretty much a good bet our roads will be blocked with trees or mud or both
Heres hoping tings dont go that way or if they do tey aint that bad

Plenty of gubbins tech in the cockpit, like that. The extra detail tweaks and mods work rather well.

Well executed paint scheme and rather effective. Probably not to my taste for this subject, I am too much of a traditionalist for this subject.
Nonetheless, well done sir !

Old Wombat

Coming along great guns, Phill!

I'm not a SW traditionalist, so that camo really works for me.

I see that Kiwi cigarette packets are as stupidly marked as Aussie ones.

Thanks muchly gentlemens.. ;D
I'll be honest I love me self some Star Wars ..have all the movies and used to have a heap of SW models as well..but as we know the same o same o can and does get boring and when ya read the comics and books you find out that ppl in the SW universe think the same..custom painted Tie figthers that one Imperial unit had ..X and B wings and the odd A wing figthers getting custom work done.
When you get down into the dirt you find dozens different figthers alone ..U wings..T wings..E wings and the list goes on and on.
So I went with that .
There's more than 20 figthers based on the X Wing alone and some look freaking cool..I wish I had more to play with now..I might have to look at getting a couple more X Wings I think  ;)

I like it - very unique. Personally, I would join the colours more to have less white but that's just me.
I'm planning on painting my 72nd one in a black and red scheme (but not Poe's one).  Just for kicks

Wardukw

Ahhh Hatter mate theres no white on this..it's a light green IJN colour ..it will be the flash on my camera which has done that .
I didn't join the lines cause the whole idea was to bugger the shape up and it worked well on the fuselage..not so on the wings ..once I weather it alot more than it is the profile will show up better ..was going to work on it today but had a rest instead  ;D

I think that paint job is fantastic! I've got to ask how did you do that? Did you mask off each color separately? You must have went through a lot of tape. Or did you go the paint layer system where apply the lightest color, mask the parts you want then the second color, mask it etc? I think I would have tried printing various color decals.
