Has anyone else here ever built a model with a detailed cafeteria?

I have a scratchbuilt 1/25 1969 Winnebago which stalled when I got to building the interior.  This is almost shaming/inspiring me to dig it out and finish it.

Not yet, but Seadude's Habakkuk has enough room for a banquetting hall eventually!

This is an amazing build  , but it's also opened my mind to the world and possibilities of 3D printing. Thank you sir

@zenrat : I think every model should have a cafeteria. Just ask the next Reban you meet, they will agree.

Work continues on the upper engine torus. The floor is now printed and the placement tests for the engines has been done.

The anti-gravity engines are printed. I only need two of those, but as usual I print some spare parts just in case something breaks.

Also printed some more smaller parts I need for this deck

And now to the cafeteria: Above the kitchen area, the storage room is located with freezers and other storages. On the right the fully automated dish-washing and storage machine.

The seating area of the cafeteria is now completed

There will be a big monitor installed in the cafeteria, so I needed to print some display for it.

Something i've wondered about 3D printing.  Is the printing medium reusable?  Can you grind up or dissolve the test prints in some way and use them again to make something else?

As usual on this project, every new post boggles my mind even more than it already was!

It depends, but its too expensive.
The resin parts cannot be recycled.
The PLA can be, you need to shred it into small pieces heat it up and form a new PLA string from it. And here is the thing: While this can be done, building a recycler is pretty expensive as the "new" PLA needs to be in the correct size (1.75 mm) and you have to wind it up again quite precisely. Would cost you a few hundred $ or € to do build one. With the price of about 25€ per 1kg this makes not really much sense, if you do not use a 3D printer on a professional level.

The cafeteria is now almost done. Only the outer hull is still missing.

In the meantime, the crew has arrived in the cafeteria. Rebans often don't wear uniforms in their free time, as you can see here. Above the food counter are the large monitors with menus and other information.

The Terran advisors also visit the cafeteria, here one is in conversation with two Rebans.

Of course, there is also a snack machine for the small appetite in between.

And then there war printing time, printing the upper part of the engine torus. Which took quite a while to complete.

Started on Sat, 1 pm. After three hours it looks like this. Due to the narrow overlay on the build plate, I printed a "raft" to increase adhesion.

After 6.5 hours. The "curved" parts are the support structures that are needed. The inner and outer walls are already clearly visible.

Saturday, 23:00. 10 hours later, the walls are slowly growing upwards.

Sunday, 7:00 am. 18 hours of printing. The support structures fill up so that the torus an be completed there. The four "holes" will later accommodate the engines. On the right and left you can see the openings in the outer hull, through which you can then look inside.

After 20 hours, the foundations of the engines are now clearly visible.

23 hours printing time, the torus closes slowly

Sunday, 2 pm. 25 hours. The outer hull is now closed.

Done! After 28.5 hours, the printing is finished. Inside you can see the "plug-in connection" for the other fuselage segments, specifically the hangar will follow here. Now all that remains to be done is to remove the support that was necessary for printing but is no longer needed.

Indeed  and I find it very educational to get some idea of print times, thank you

After printing the engine torus, it was no time to post-process it:

Removing the support structure that was inside of it. Without, the upper part of the torus would not be printable.

Sometimes, removing the support is not so easy and leaves a not very nice surface. This time, it was ok, especially as his part will later not really visible.

Testing, if the four main engines fit into the torus: Test passed!

Another test of installed everything into this deck. Looks quite good so far, no major issues so far.

The last test: putting both parts of the engine torus together, it also fits.

Now I can start to paint everything.
