East Midlands Model Show 2nd April

I received this notification yesterday. Not an "official table" as such but a space to display if you are around.

"Hi Chris,

Spoke to Alex the branch leader of East Midlands model club and he says the SIG can have have up to 4 tables for doing a display. Have let Martin know too.

I realise its a bit short notice, but if you can let SIG members who are attending as individuals or part of other clubs we have the space to display, they can bring something along - there won't be a display stand. I have got spare cloths. Trevor and me will be there all day and the space is behind the Coventry club so we can help each other."

Thanks to Richard for letting me know.

Venue is :-

Hinckley Leisure Centre,
Argents Mead,
Hinckley,
LE10 1BZ

I happened to read the shows section on Britmodeller which had this note for those manning tables:

'Just a small bump, and a notice that could clubs that are attending bring their own chairs as there has been an issue with the seating that is available.Traders will not be affected, but are more than welcome to bring their own chair,be it a recliner, small sofa, chaisee longue, etc etc. '

So if you're going, take your own chair, or risk standing all day.
Life's too short to apply all the stencils

If you're travelling there by train then don't forget that a rail strike is currently scheduled for the day before.  Train services will still be disrupted on the 2nd.

I wont be in attendance im afraid. Hence the bit Richrd said about no display stands.
A little thing called work is getting in the way.

The old hinkley show was a good one. Ive heard some good things about the new venue from the lads at the Coventry club.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Quite near the station, but unfortunately it's still 2 hours or so from Euston

I'll be there with luck, as I'll be at my 'country home' for a few days and it coincides nicely with the show. I'll drive the Volvo so I can pack some hefty boxes worth.

We may even have the English debut of all FOUR PR19s!  ;D

The Wooksta!

Won't be there, sadly, but will be bearding the Scots in their lair later in the month.

Not one for me as it's just a bit far. Need to save up for Scotland at the end of April too.

Thinking of buying the lot or just a glen or two ?

I'm tempted to start my own 'little book' for your comments.... I'm sure everyone here could add a line or two!  ;D

You can get them quite cheap, obviously, in Poundland  ;)

Will it be a 'flat stand' then? One with no shelves and things?

Will anyone have any SIG nameplates and stuff for it too, as I haven't packed my 777-900 to use as a 'finger poker' deterrent.

From what I gather it will be a "flat stand" and whilst it will have cloths that will be it.

Well, our four tables turned out to be two, particularly galling when right next to us the Coventry club were using two tables to sell some large kits. I think it will be the first and last Hinckley Show I attend, the GPS co-ordinates lead you to a hospital entrance from which you can SEE the Leisure Centre, but you can't get to it, and having overcome that obstacle, there's nowhere to park when you DO get there!  :banghead:

I had to heave one of my hefty boxes a considerable way from the only car parking space I could find, bad enough when heading to the show, but when leaving a whole bunch of selfish attendees had parked all over the entrance road stopping anyone else getting out! MAJOR traffic jams!  :banghead:

The show itself was pretty good, lots of branches, SIGs and traders with some very good models on show. The traders were doing land office business (I even bought two books...) and everyone seemed pretty pleased with the show itself. There were very few Whiffs other than Richard's, Jeremy's and mine, but I got pics of three of them.

All three of these by the same guy, the Lanc looked particularly good.

We had a mixed response to our stuff, only a few people were really interested, some were amused, but the great majority took one look and passed us by.

Ho hum.............
