To be honest 2 Rounds doesn't bother me at all, it's the sheer size of Round 1 that drives me mad, or madder than that nice man in a white coat jotted down on his note pad all them years ago

Perhaps for next year we consider an idea needing to be "seconded" before being included in the first poll.  Might cut down on some of the more off the wall ideas that only get one vote.

Just a thought.  Obviously more work to compile the initial list, but maybe not too much and worth it for a more manageable initial poll.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Good call.  IIRC there was a modicum of that prior to the Round 1 Poll, but I think it would be helpful to have seconders (even thirders?) to sort the wheat from the chaff.  Would probably need the original suggestion to be quoted in any response but let's worry about the procedural aspects as and when.

It's a very reasonable idea. However you could run into some practical problems, one of which would be people's reactions if their idea or ideas weren't seconded and the more likely one that you'd end up with a small group of people doing the seconding. Take a look at the Wiffy nominations for an example of  member's participation. You'd then get cries of "favouritism" perhaps ?

The simplest solution is for people to write their ideas down on a note pad, leave it for a few days, and look at them again before posting them. The probability is that they'd edit some of the less likely ones out. The other simple way is for people to read what's been posted before and then see if any of those are close enough to their own ideas that a simple amendment to the original might suffice. Lets just try and avoid the current scatter gun approach.

I could say a lot more, but I won't

I'm also slightly concerned about how'd I'd monitor whether an idea had been seconded (we'd get third's and fourth's as well) , but that could be overcome with yet more pieces of paper. I honestly don't want the site to become bureaucratic in nature, selfishly perhaps because I'm the bureaucrat, and as I've said many times there is a simple solution.

At the end of the day though if that's the way the Membership wants to go then it can be organised, as I said at the beginning it's a very reasonable idea.

Sounds good to me.
Having an idea be seconded is very good. If the seconder quotes the original idea post that would make it easier to tell if something has been seconded or not.
Combining ideas as we go would help with the work load. My Trashcanistan and post apocalyptic ideas can certainly go together.

Still too close to call across the top 7 or 8.

However, we're getting very close to that 35-40 members voted, which seems to be the norm for polls on the site.

We seem to have hit the normal 35ish votes.  No votes in 48 hours it seems.  Kinda sad with the number of members, but it is what it is.  Does this need to stay open for another 5 days?

I'll keep it open until the weekend Nick, mostly because I said I would and with it being Easter some people may log on during the break. After all we had a couple of people discover Round 1 after it had closed.

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

A couple of the ones in the lead have my interest. I should start planning now.
