When British Rail was privatised way back in the dim mists of antiquity (1994) I remember pointing out that it took a certain level of intellect to privatise something even Thatcher had left nationalised.
Still, it gave me a job for 9 years.

Locally, downunder, the previous Liberal Government decided to privatise the local public transport system.  Ever since it has been beset with numerous problems, cut services and so.  Now, a Labor Government has been elected and decided to renationalise the public transport system.  They have claimed they will not need to pay the old private operators compensation.  They haven't promised to renew services or anything, just chance the ownership.  Hopefully it will fix things but we have to see.
