British Rail were  working on this  mode of transport in the late 1960's  and 1970's.   We know that a senior member of our fraternity worked for BR research...................which leads to the question,  How do you put longer wings on a flying saucer?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_flying_saucer    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4801928.stm

Oh goodness, not THAT again!  :o  :o

At the RTC it was called 'Charles Frederick's Folly'. He was the Assistant Director of Research and seemed to take the scope his duties a little too widely, they didn't have much to do with the APT as far as I could see! :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

It still wouldn't get BR running on time...
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

PR19_Kit

BR was running on time a lot more towards its end than the current shambles is!  :banghead:

Leading Observer

I vaguely remember the news coverage of the event - Mum and Dad took the Daily Express and I'm sure even back then they were peddling doom and destruction over an invasion of aliens, even if it was in tiny saucers rather than small boats :banghead:

Depends on the franchise holder. I travel by Southern a fair bit and they run a pretty good service, GNER do when I travel "Oop North" as well. Trans Pennine and Avanti West Coast on the other hand  :banghead:
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

And as for Cross Country, words fail me!  :banghead:

Hmmm, none of those links actually worked Joe.  :(

Most came up 'Not available at this time' and the first one was just the home page of the Facebook Project Cancelled SIG.

Ah apologies, iv just realised the group page settings are set to private, oops

Anyone on Facebook with an interest in the Project Cancelled / alternative proposals genre feel free to join the group.

Possibly also of interest, there is also affiliated groups, 'World War 2.5' covering 1946 genre, 'Finnoscandia alternative modelling' covering Scandi what-if and project subjects, and the 'TSR.2 Research group', a resource for modelling the type.

Your luck might be in - TransPennine Express have lost their contract.  The service will now be taken back and run by an Operator of Last Resort. Now we can blame the Govt for poor trains!

That's EIGHT different lines that are now run by the Government.

How many do we need before they can go back to calling the system British Rail?
